I was told that as I journeyed around Australia I would find a place to settle and Maryvale on the Darling Downs was love at first sight. I am happy to share my love for this property and welcome travellers to enjoy the tranquillity of the riverside and enjoy some of the walks and other features of the area. Welcome to She-oak Hideaway, located in Maryvale by the riverside. The riverside is a peaceful place with two large camping areas and firepits. There are 2 large waterholes suitable for swimming, fishing and kayaking. Down by the riverside you will see Water dragons, ducks, swamp hens, many birds, occasional Wallabies and Koala. Most afternoons the local Rikali (Australias Otter) can be seen diving for Yabbies. We are an 11 minute drive to the very popular Main range national Park which has some beautiful hiking trails and is the perfect place for a picnic. We have a great country pub close by as well which is a short walk down a country lane. Pets are welcome but please ensure they are under your control and that you clean up after them. Campers must be self sufficient with their own toilet. Rubbish bins are provided for campers and a treated rain water tap is available. Kayaks and life jackets are available on request. 1 10 Amp power connection is also available on request. Please contact me for early arrival time.Welcome to She-Oak Hideaway, located in Maryvale by the riverside. The riverside is a peaceful place with two large camping areas, campfires and hot plates. The sites are flat with plenty of space to maneuver vehicles. There are 2 large waterholes suitable for swimming, fishing and kayaking.  Down by the riverside you will see Water dragons, turtles, ducks, swamp hens, many birds, Rakali, plus occasional Wallabies and Koala.  Rakali, a native water-rat - (Australia's otter) can often be seen collecting Yabbies and mussels then returning to the river bank to enjoy the feast. There are plenty of Yabbies in the creek and try your luck at fishing for silver perch and catfish. PLEASE DO NOT USE CLOSED TRAPS AS THESE HAVE DROWNED WATER DRAGONS, RAKALI AND TURTLE! Please enquire about open top traps I have available. We are an 11 minute drive to the very popular Main range national Park which has some beautiful hiking trails and is the perfect place for a picnic. We have a great country pub close by as well. The more adventurous can cross the creek and take the lane into Maryvale for a 20min walk each way.  Pets are welcome but please ensure they are under your control and that you clean up after them. Campers must be self-sufficient with their own toilet.  An annex and Thunder box is available on request. A rubbish bin is provided for campers and a treated rain water tap is available. 4 kayaks and life jackets are available on request.  Arrival and departure times can be flexible, Please contact me for more information. Please be aware that the peace is often disturbed by the laughter of the kookaburra, the song of butcher birds, the chatter of noisy minors and sounds from the road which is barely noticable down by the creek. Your Hosts, Paul and Cheryl wish to make your stay enjoyable and will be here to assist wherever we can.

Overall, a pleasant experience. The venue was as described, but there were few walks, useless entertainment equipment- all broken. The water course was understandably non flushed. Pleasant. I may return!

We had a great time! The directions were perfect, we were met on arrival and handed fire wood. The camp was exactly as described. Paul was very responsive and easy to communicate with.

Great spot! We used it as a base to do the Cunningham’s gap walks, it’s only just down the road from the start of the tracks and very handy. The river outlook is very nice. There is some road noise but it didn’t disturb us. Both sites were occupied but they are far enough away from each other that you still feel like you have your own space and privacy. Would stay again!
