We are in the process of changing the property name to "Mount surround camp ground". Relax in this peaceful, family friendly campground, nestled in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and nearby Mount Elliot. Enjoy the 70 Acres of shady grounds with plenty of wildlife, including pretty faced wallabies and abundant birdlife. On arrival simply pick a spot you like and set up camp. We do have internet reception. Occasionally reception can be weak depending on what the network is doing. Generally, it is not a problem. The 20-acre dam is evaporating fast and not so good for swimming or kayaking at the moment (From September 2024) ,but the birds are loving it! So... good for bird watchers! Bring Mosquito/sandfly spray especially if camping by the lake. Settle down of an evening sit back and enjoy the spectacular starry night sky. Campfires allowed. Fire rings are available scattered about the site, just roll one to your camp site. Wood for sale, $10 cash per milk crate, from camp kitchen. Please be honest and place cash in the 'honesty box'. Thankyou. Located conveniently 45 km South from Townsville and Magnetic Island ferry terminal, 45km north of Ayr, 8km north of Giru. Pet friendly. All dogs must be on a lead and under owners' control at all times. Dog poo must be picked up. No one wants to step in your dog's poo. Powered and unpowered sites available. Separate men and women's toilets and hot showers. Camp kitchen with shared fridges, gas rings x2, large gas BBQ, toaster, kettle, microwave and picnic tables. BYO cooking gear, plates, cups, utensils. Washing up sinks x2 -cold water only. Laundry tubs have hot water that can be used in kitchen sink. Coin washing machines available. ($2 x 2, BYO coins)

Fantastic campsite - expansive area with gorgeous views. Grounds are great with little chance of being too close to neighbours. Lots of fauna to appreciate too. Cathy was so warm and accommodating - and helped out when we needed it with no hesitation (thanks for the mozzie coils!). Conveniently just off the motorway. Will def be back!

Quiet, low-key gem of a place. Scenic - located between hills and lake. Well-grassed, plenty of trees. Spacious - plenty of room for kids to play, ride their bikes and generally do their own thing without disturbing others. Facilities basic but well maintained and clean. And last but not least, the owners friendly and helpful. Don't come here for glitzy glamour but do if you want a scenic, relaxing, peaceful place less than an hour's drive from Townsville. I would certainly be happy to stay here again.

We were lucky enough to get a spot for our van right on the shore of the dam - the sunset and bird life were amazing as were the wallabies that greeted us as we drove slowly in. The walk around the dam is not too difficult and was lovely first thing in the morning before another long day of driving.

This site has beautiful views, heaps of adorable wallabies, and is great for stargazing. Amenities were very clean and had what we needed and it felt very private. Mozzies were intense so make sure to bring repellent so you can fully enjoy this lovely site!
