Our property is located on the site of the First Kilkivan Township and was home to a gold rush in 1868 where a 73 oz nugget was discovered. Guests will have access to a portable toilet and fire pit throughout their stay. Gold is still found in and around the creek with fossicking permitted at an extra daily rate of $25 per person. As this is private property we require that all the QLD Fossicking Act rules and regulations are followed this includes having your own permit which must be supplied before fossicking is permitted. These rules include no machinery or pump operated sluices such as high banking sluices. Detectors are welcome and some great finds have been found with them including gold and coins from the 1860’s. Large groups are welcome. There are many great shaded camping spots along the creek or a large open area of about 50 acres for larger groups. There is also a year round swimming hole fed by a solar bore on the property for anyone wanting to cool down. Kids under 12 are free but if fossicking must be covered by a permit. Pets are welcome. Camping and Fossicking for gold.

The property is very nice and peaceful. Our dog loved it there. Neville is super friendly and checks up everyone and drops off firewood. He even gave us a pumpkin. There is portable toilets scattered about the property and is very convenient. We had a go at fossicking for gold and even got a few bits panning in the creek. We will be coming back in the future.

We camped at McSweeney over a long weekend, with our two dogs. Neville was a pleasure to deal with, called prior to booking to ensure we had the directions to get to the location. On arrival Neville drove down to greet us and showed us to a beautiful campsite. The location was stunning, and whilst other campers were staying as well we were all spread out enough that we felt we had the place to ourselves. Plenty of kangaroos around and the site was only a short drive to Goomeri and Kilkivan township. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be back again.

Stargazing by the creek

We went back to Nev’s campsite to enjoy the stars. We were not disappointed. The Milky Way is a spectacle to be marvelled and Nev’s place is one place where you can do that in peace. Truly a great haven for camping. Will definitely be back soon.
