The Cooke Family welcomes you to “Hopevale”. A beautiful 113 acre property bordered by Wrattens National Park at the edge of the world in the peaceful Widgee district of greater Gympie. Jason, a landscaper by trade, and Jacinta a teacher by profession, met many years ago at a national Christian youth conference. Four beautiful children later and many years down the track, they bought Hopevale as a blank cattle fattening property in 2018. After much hard work, they have made it what it is today, with plans to continually improve. We have different camp options available, one of which is set up for those guests also wanting to stay with horses or just have a larger group booking. Guests will have access to a toilet and shower throughout their stay which is within walking distance from each of the campsites. Campfires and pets are welcome. The property has only had 4 farming owners in its 110 odd years since it was first surveyed and selected in 1915. The Hillcoats, Bishops, Cotters, and now the Cooke’s. The families over the years have used the property for timber getting, dairy, beef and small cropping. The property is geologically rich with volcanic soils, sandstone escarpments full of caves and overhangs. The mighty Wrattens Falls sits to the back of the property in the National Park and is a sight to behold in full flow. It feeds the head waters of the western branch of Widgee Creek which meanders through the property. The subtropical dry rainforest clad mountains are dominated by the majestic Bunya and Hoop pines and are a testament to what once was covering the entire property before being cleared for farming. Remnant riparian creek lines are botanically rich and diverse holding Red and White Cedar, Teak, Silky oak and many other coveted timber trees harvested back in the day. There are many species of animals and birds that call Hopevale home. From water dragons, frogs and fish in the creeks, monitors, wallabies, deer, koalas, possums and phascogales in the eucalypts. Red-back wrens, pardalotes, rainbow bee-eaters, finches and quail call the open grasses home while whip birds give their iconic call in the forest. Above, birds of prey ride the thermals of the valley looking for their next meal. “We have been blessed beyond measure with a small slice of God’s wonderful creation that we would love to share with you.”

Big Fig Camp
A Hidden Gem
Nestled within a sprawling 113-acre property, along Widgee Creek Hopevale Adventure Camping offers a truly secluded experience. We were fortunate to secure a private creek-side nook, providing a perfect blend of natural beauty and solitude. Facilities - Fire Pit: Generously sized, perfect for gatherings. Note: While firewood is available for purchase, the quantity may be less than expected. But, you can bring your own and pick up kindling anywhere. - Hot showers available - a welcome luxury after a day of outdoor activities. - Water: Drinkable bore water on-site - a valuable amenity for campers - Bush Walks Well-planned trails with varying difficulty levels, suitable for different abilities. - Waterfall: A picturesque feature, even during our visit. Tip: Consider visiting during the wet season for a more spectacular view. Pros Secluded, spacious campsites Beautiful natural surroundings, caves and waterfalls. Hot showers and potable water available Variety of hiking trails Be aware - When there are a lot of people onsite the queue for the shower and toilet can grow. No biggie, you get to meet your neighbours and have a good chat. Final Thoughts For those seeking a genuine camping experience with a touch of comfort, it really delivers. The vast property ensures privacy, while the creek-side location adds a serene backdro to your stay. The combination of pristine nature, well-maintained facilities, and diverse act ivities makes it a standout destination.

We had a great stay at Jason’s campground! The road seems rough, but it’s actually a simple, well-structured path with beautiful scenery. Jason’s instructions were very well done, which made it easy to find the place even without internet access. The campground is lovely, with well-separated and private spots, and the bathroom and running water facilities are excellent! We loved our stay!

Peace and quiet 🥰
We loved camping here! Such a peaceful and beautiful place. Absolutely no phone reception - great for some peace and quiet. Although there was only 1 toilet and 1 shower room for all campsites to use, they were always tidy and well maintained. Had a great chat with the owner Jason and he explained the walks, how hard they were and how long they would take - It was fun scrambling over the rocks to get to the waterfall. The load and quality of the firewood he supplied was awesome too 🔥! We will definitely be back! Can't wait to come back and do some more star gazing again! 🥰

Windmill Hollow
Absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. We stayed at Windmill Hollow which was a nice big area for the group of us. We went for a walk up the mountain and looked at the caves which were amazing. We plan to return to see the waterfalls and the big rock. Jason is an amazing host who came to make sure everything was okay and let us know about the trails.
