In the small rural town of Millaroo, you will find nestled around sugar cane, horses & a small herd of quiet cattle, a laid back bush camp in a paddock by two dams on the bank of Millaroo Creek. Here you can bird watch, take leisurely walks down to the creek, enjoy a spot of fresh water fishing/red-clawing, launch the kayak where you may spot the odd fresh water crocodile or sit and relax in tranquility on the creek bank. During harvesting season you may visit regular cane fires in the local area, and may be even lucky enough to catch the burn straight across from the campground! The local Millaroo Social Club is a short ten minute drive, where meals are served most Friday nights. The Burdekin river is also a short drive away where you can access the river closer to the township of Millaroo by 4WD for an afternoon barbecue & fish! Campground offers plenty of fresh water for drinking & filling tanks, does requires campers to be self contained & is pet friendly providing they are supervised at all times.

Creek Camp
Lovely quiet spot. The dogs loved jumping in the shallow dam and watching the cows and kangaroos. Perfect getaway for a couple nights of peace and nature. Very friendly hosts who came to greet us on arrival and again when we left.

Dam Camp
Great overnight little adventure
We loved our overnight stay at the gumtree rest. Bruno came to greet us and kindly explained all there was to do and answered all our questions. The kids played with the excavators in the sandpit and we made a fire by the damm. In the morning we walk to see the cows in the paddock nearby and to the creek. We saw a big bush turkey nest and a snake. Lots of adventures are to be made at Bruno’s farm, we will be back soon! Thank you for your kindness.

Creek Camp
Green relaxing spot
Hosts Bruno and Sally are lovely people, very welcoming and accommodating. Bruno greeted us on arrival and showed us the best spots to camp and there's masses of green flat ground to do so. Later that afternoon he and Sally dropped by to make sure we were happy and gave us dozens of big fresh mangos. The creek down on lower ground would be a great spot to camp as well, however better in the cooler months as less breeze gets down there. We really enjoyed the Gumtree Rest Camp. It's very restful! Certainly recommend it and will be back again in the cooler months for a longer stay.

Paddock Camp
Gumtree Rest is absolutely amazing
Amazing space to relax and unwind. Plenty of birdlife by the dam. We shared our camp with some gentle giants (cows) who were great company. Fire pits, a creek to camp by or take a stroll and plenty of space. Amazing hosts and we will definitely be back. Thank you for sharing your beautiful piece of North Queensland with us.

Dam Camp
I have already written a glowing review on Wikicamps and am happy to repeat it. What a wonderful stay. Bruno and Sally are wonderful hosts. We shared a drink on our first afternoon then Bruno offered us the opportunity to see the cane field across the road burn at 3 am. What an experience for city slickers! Great choices of site - down by the river or up near the waterhole, firewood provided, just wonderful. We stayed two days and enjoyed every minute. Bruno was happy to extend our knowledge on cane farming. A family of kookaburras just above in a tree hollow. Thanks. Will see you again. Sandra and Greg
