A neatly-converted bus on a farm in rural Pays-de-Loire

Permanently parked up on a farm in north-western France, Wanda the Wander Bus may be technically retired but she’s still doing a great job of keeping those who get on board happy. Now, instead of ferrying passengers from place to place, she’s become the destination: a lovely bolthole for two in the Pays-de-Loire region.

A full-scale renovation has turned this single-decker into a glamping getaway that’s pretty high end. She offers a double bed that’s made up with quality French linen for your arrival, a flushing toilet, a hot-water shower and a kitchenette that’s kitted out with everything you need to self cater. Whitewashed, timber clad walls and wood mean the interior of this tiny home is stylish and the bus windows mean it’s flooded with light. Outside of them, there’s an orchard; part of a three-acre smallholding that’s home to kune kune pig, Edith, some free-range chickens and your host, Cassie who’s never far away if you need her.

She’ll give you tips on nearby restaurants where you can tuck into the region’s delicacies and let you know about her favourite local walks. There are plenty of those nearby including hiking trails around Gorron itself. This is an area where you can get a real taste of life in France away from the crowds – but it’s not too far for day trips to some of northern France’s best-known sights either. There’s the fairytale turrets of Chateau de Fougères, a half-hour drive away, and the tidal island of Mont-St-Michel an hour and a quarter away on the coast.

Climb aboard Wanda, our ex-service bus from England now lovingly renovated into a stunning tiny home. Situated on two acres of farmland in Pays de la Loire, France, Wanda offers a unique escape for two to disconnect from daily life and reconnect with each other. With a king size Emma mattress, luxury French bed linen, eco-friendly toiletries, a hot shower and a fully equipped kitchen, this is a bus ride like no other. Life on Wanda is all about simplicity and disconnecting from the world. There's no TV, but you'll find plenty of good, old-fashioned board games to keep you entertained. Plus, Wifi is available if you do need to connect (we recommend keeping it off for the ultimate relaxing break away!). Locally there are over 30km of stunning countryside walks and cycle trails, plus some beautiful spots for kayaking and paddle boarding (we have paddle boards available to hire). You're also perfectly positioned to explore the coast, with Mont St Michel and the glorious port of St Malo just a 90 minute drive away. Wondering what's to eat? Locally we can recommend our favourite restaurants situated between 10-30 minute drive away and all offering delicious French cuisine. The village boulangerie is an 8 minute walk away and offers a range of fresh bread and pastries. On Sundays, you'll find most shops close so be sure to stock up beforehand. Ready to relax? We look forward to welcoming you soon. Wanda welcomes the LGBT+ community. Please note we are not able to accommodate pets.

Rural retreat on converted bus
Perfect!
We had an amazing stay at Cassie and Gary’s place. Would really recommend to stay here if you want an different experience in a very calm place. We loved staying in the bus everything was very clean and even at night we could make a campfire. Gary and cassie were always there if we needed something and gave good tips.

Nearby attractions

Wanda the Wander Bus is parked up on a farm not far from the town of Gorron. It’s a rural area but there are some pretty villages and towns within a half-hour drive. Fougères is one of the best with Chateau de Fougères an unmissable sight – it’s the largest medieval fortress in Europe. A little distance outside the town, the Botanical Gardens of Upper Brittany are also worth a visit if you’re into horticulture. The mill village of Fontaine Daniel is a picturesque place to visit with a couple of nice eateries, woodland walks and a pretty pond while riverside Saint Hilaire du Harcourt is best visited on Wednesday when the market is on. The north coast of France and Mont St Michel are just over an hour’s drive away.

Food and drink

A few thoughtful essentials are provided as a welcome to Wanda the Wander Bus and your hosts can offer tips on some of the best places to eat out in the local area. If you want to pick up some supplies to cook on the bus, Gorron has plenty of shops and there’s a weekly market on a Wednesday. If you’re visiting Fontaine Daniel, there’s a great fine-dining restaurant, La Forge, which is perfect for a special meal out. The village also has a creperie and brasserie for a more casual meal.
