Raven's Nook is located just a few miles outside the historic logging town of Vernonia, and boasts a 100-year-old cedar cabin, a concrete skateboard bowl, a wood-fired sauna (operational outside of burn ban dates), a large garden, and lush, mature coast range forest. The cabin has electricity but no running water at this time. A propane grill and burners are available for cooking. There are multiple fire pits on the property for when conditions allow. The property backs up to Weyerhaeuser land where permit-based hunting and recreation are very popular. The quaint town of Vernonia has a brand new skatepark of its own, and there are numerous festivals and parades throughout the year. The Banks-Vernonia Trail is a lovely paved bicycle path for cycling enthusiasts of all stripes. The Crown-Zellerbach Trail and L.L. Stub Stewart State Park offer mountainbikers some challenging terrain.Post up in the cabin or pitch a tent in the forest or meadow. Shred my new 5-foot concrete kidney bowl until your heart's content. Wake up before dawn and slink through the forest in search of ungulates or fungi. Fire up the sauna and sweat out your hangover. Sit by the forested stream and contemplate the meaning of life. Relax in the garden and help yourself to some fruits and veggies. We are far from city lights and the stars are crystal clear. Our house is about 100 yards from the cabin and tent sites, and we won't bother you unless you want us to. The view is just trees, trees, and more trees. There are some nice mature Sitka Spruce and Grand Fir on the property. The owls and tree frogs often treat us to an evening chorus. Vernonia is about a five-minute drive, and has a gas station, grocery store, music store, lots of little antique shops, and all kinds of food and drink.

Forest cabin
Tom was a welcoming, attentive host, and the cabin was an autumn dream surrounded by colorful falling leaves. We would love to come back for a summer visit.

The land and cabin were so beautiful. Our hosts were communicative and accommodating, and we had a wonderful time traipsing through the garden and cooking on the thoughtfully supplied burners on the porch. My son fell asleep by the fire and we got cozy in the sauna after. Our stay was everything we hoped for.

Lovely cabin in the woods!
The cabin on Tom's land is really lovely. I was lucky and it rained the entire time the couple days I was there. The cabin is set back in the woods at the back of the property and really peaceful. Tom and his family have a beautiful and lush garden and the cutest flock of chickens. The cabin was set up with an electric heater (much needed as the average temp was 55*), 2 options for cookstoves (propane and single electric hob), some dishes, big comfy bed that looks into the forest, big comfy chair, and a table that seats 4. The shower was not set up during my time there but Tom was happy to set that up for me. The toilet was a lovely wood composting toilet in the woods (with a privacy screen) that added a real "in nature" bathroom experience that I loved. Tom was very kind and offered me additional amenities if I needed but also respected my privacy, I was on a mission to read and have a quiet reset, which I greatly appreciated. Overall wonderful experience and one of the best Hipcamp stays I have had (I have had many Hipcamp stays!). Thanks Tom!

Cute little cabin, got chilly at night, but the comforter kept us SO warm. Very kind hosts! Less private than I expected, but we still felt like we had our own space and the hosts respected our privacy.

Safe haven
Our time at the farm was magical! Tom made sure we all felt safe and had everything we needed. It was such a lovely escape from the city. Tom and his partner both clearly care so much about the property and making it a haven. We will be back!
