Buffalo Creek Vacations was started after our father, Harold, retired from NY as a UPS driver.  He wanted to go somewhere & experience all 4 season!  Him & our mom settled in Haywood County, NC & built their own log cabin & started raising bison.  Then, myself, 3 siblings & our spouses purchases the 40 acres behind my folks 18 acres when it came up for sale.  We decided to build a cabin & then we started rented it out in 2007.  Now, we currently have 6 cabins & 2 train cabooses for rent.  We love living in God's country & raising the bison along w/ a bunch other farm animals.  We love hosting guest on our property & decided after many calls asking if we allow camping, to include a few lucky folks to camp at Buffalo Creek.  If you are looking for something other then "car camping" & being "on top of each other" at traditional camp grounds, then give us a call & come check us out.  You will be glad you did!

Seaboard Coast Line Caboose #0887
A truly wonderful stay. The caboose was comfy yet quirky. The kids loved being able to “drive” it, in addition to sleeping in the crows nest. The property itself is well maintained, very walkable. We loved being able to pet and feed some goats and horses, with Farmhand Elliott taking the time to familiarize us with the various animals. We were even fortunate enough to see a live goat birth! The provided firewood helped make s’mores by the fire-pit a hit. The following morning feed was a sight to see, along with the phenomenal model train track. Would highly recommend!

Unique and special experience
My wife and I and our dog stayed three nights in the Orange Caboose. It was delightful. We loved the caboose, the railroad and buffalo theming throughout, and the live views (through the south-facing windows) of the bison coming up the hill after their morning feeding. We enjoyed walking the property and seeing the alpacas, llamas, goats, pigeons, turkey, and ponies, as well as the other railroad cars, cabins, and the castle up on the hill! During the day, we took our own excursions to nearby locations, one day ascending Snowbird Mountain in TN to 4300' elevation (requires 4WD), and another day visiting Asheville. On our last night, the skies were crystal clear, and the stars were beautiful under low light pollution. Cheryl was a great host, helping us with anything we needed, including extra supplies and resetting the WiFi router after a power spike knocked it offline. Anything we needed was a text or phone call away at any time. We also popped into the gift shop to see Cheryl in person during gift shop hours. The renovated railroad cars and the entire property are a unique and special experience. A lot of work went into making this place interesting and fun. A labor of love, for sure. We'd recommend this experience to anyone who wants to try something different.

Such a fun and unique place to stay! My kids loved that we got to sleep on an actual train caboose. They also got to visit and pet some of the animals, and my daughter even got to bottle feed one of the baby goats, which she was thrilled about. We got fresh eggs from the store for breakfast and I was able to do some laundry (we were right in the middle of a longer road trip). Cheryl was so helpful and communicative. We hope to come back and stay again!

Our stay at Buffalo Creek was awesome! We loved the caboose and enjoyed our mornings on the farm. My kids loved watching the bison be fed, checking out the ponies, goats, pigeons, bunnies, etc. We would definitely return. Thanks for a great time Cheryl!

A unique and fun experience :)
We had a wonderful time. Spending two days in a train caboose was a incredible experience our child was elated. The Bison 🦬 were a treat to have outside our window and we got to watch the morning feedings. I would recommend this to any one who wants a fun and unique trip.
