Historic rural property close to Wollombi. Tranquil surrounds for Australian Bush camping. Range of camp sites on the large property, suitable for Caravans and other camping set ups that are 4x4. Set up where you like. Open private areas and extensive tracks for walks or cycling. Walk and birdwatch. Greenloo composting toilet. FirePit.Sunset Flats Camping area is part of Wollombi Springs which is a 300 acre mix of open mowed grassed areas, bush and sandstone ridges and backs onto Yengo State Forest. It's totally private, peaceful and pristine. The site is mown grass areas amongst trees with capacity to comfortably accommodate 5 camping areas within walking distance of the central toilet amenity. Each site is approximately 100 metres or more apart and several are private behind a stand of trees. The site by the dam is in full sun all day and ideal for Winter camping. It is flood free and well drained. Travel time from Newcastle or Wahroonga ( start of th M1) is approx. 1.5 hrs Wildlife is plentiful all year round, and the place is a bird watchers delight! Photographers will love the variety of wildflowers throughout the year, and rock formations that change colour with the time of day, depending on what part of the property you are on. If you are looking to recharge the batteries, chill out from the hustle & bustle of life and just get quiet, then this is your place :-) Sunset Flats is the first of a number of camping sites we are creating, and is a wide grassed area with a very gentle slope, shade trees and a nearby fire pit. Great for tents or RV camping, with an easy walk to our brand new 'Loo with a View' composting toilet. Please note there may be one other group in the vicinity at times, but chances are you will have the entire place to yourself most of the time. Access roads to the property are gravel, a little rough in spots with a steep climb, initially, but suitable for 2wd in fine weather, and 4WD if wet. Mountain bikes are welcome and there are a number of trails already cut for use, with plans for a complete circuit on the drawing board. If you enjoy hiking, there are no shortage of tracks to wander along, or you may prefer to just sling a hammock and read a book and soak up the silence. Noisy late night party goers are not our ideal guests, as you will discover sound carries in the bush, and we really want our patrons to enjoy the pristine beauty of the property.

Sunset Flats Camping

Fantastic camping spot

Great secluded campsite. It is about a 10 min drive from Wollombi, it means that you are close enough to civilisation if you need anything but when you are at the campsite it feels like you are in the middle of a forest. The drive from Wollombi is very beautiful. The campsite itself was great, with a nice toilet. We had an fire every night and cooked our food over the fire creating an authentic camping experience. Rob and Trish, are lovely hosts. Very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend this campsite.

Sunset Flats Camping

We had the most relaxing long weekend at Sunset Flats. We were on a massive, private well kept campsite with no other campers in view. Exactly what we were hoping for. The hosts were lovely and very accommodating. Such a chillaxing vibe and we came home feeling completely recharged, grounded and at one with nature. Will definitely come back in the future when we need a quiet, secluded, laid back break.

Birdsong and Stardust

We had an amazing weekend at Sunset Flats Camping, over the October Long weekend. After grabbing a coffee in Wollombi, my girl friend and I were met by Trish to lead us out to the property. We were very glad that she did as it is a little tricky for first time visitors. As there were many campers over the long weekend, Trish went the extra mile to make sure that we had a secluded camp site, away from other family groups with children. We wouldn't have know anyone else was camping nearby. The only sounds we heard was the cacophony of bird-song. We had a visit from hosts, Trish and Robert later the first day just to make sure we had everything we needed. Considering their house is quite some distance away, we were extremely grateful for their act of kindness. If you are looking for a quiet escape in the bush amongst the trees, to be still, relax and look at the stars, this is the place to go.

Sunset Flats Camping

We had a great stay here, and would return. The sites are well apart and out of view of each other. Lots of firewood, and a dam to grab water (for washing up, wouldn't drink). Toilet was great, very clean and new. Fire trail road in from wollombi, which Robert kindly guided us along, we were in a SUV towing a camper. Great bushland, lots of varied Birdlife, insects, lizards, and wombat holes. Lovely vistas down the valley from our site by the dam.

Sunset Flats Camping

Everything we hoped for

Sunset Flats is a great location for Hipcampers transitioning from fully serviced sites to off grid camping. Great communication leading up to our arrival including tips to make the most of our visit to Wollombi area and an offer to meet close to town to escort us to site. There were 4 other groups on site during our stay but separation is good, contact is minimal and the nights were perfectly quiet. The single toilet block is clean and well maintained, and the eco toilet is not as confronting as other long drop facilities. My youngest, who previously has refused to use any campsite toilets was happy with his #2 experience… Lovely wide grassy areas with an abundance of bird life and sunshine. Robert and Trish were very welcoming, and as their is no mobile reception were caring enough to drive up one night to advise the BOM had issued a storm warning for that night … we prepared our site, and at 2am as the wind and rain lashed us I was thankful for their advice. We will be back, and hope they maintain their limits on bookings so campers can enjoy solitude in a wonderful location.

Sunset Flats Camping

Would recommend!

Robert is an excellent host. The camping area is very neat and peaceful. I had it to myself and whilst it was brief it was great to be sleeping under the stars again with nothing but the bush to listen to. Shout out to the toilet facilities.
