Unwind in the seclusion of this private and safe bush camping site on the banks of the Wambuul-Macquarie River in the remote Killongbutta valley located half-way between Bathurst and Orange. It’s a place where time stands still. Enabling you to reconnect with nature as you slow down and embrace the sounds of the river, wildlife and sheoaks when they ‘whisper secrets to the wind’. Many stories and dreamings have come from this place which guarantees to inspire your imagination as an artist, writer, poet or musician. You have access to 100 acres of bushland or enjoy a walk along Killongbutta Road which winds its way through spectacular Wiradjuri country where ancient stone quarries, corroboree sites and a warrior’s grave have been found. Platypus, water dragons and river rats all live in the river. Be prepared to share the site with wombats who have burrowed their homes into the banks. Road access to site is suitable for 2WD in dry weather. It is a short, steep drop with two tight corners not suitable for large caravans and RVs. The site has a newly constructed long drop toilet, pets are allowed and firewood can be foraged around the site but best to bring your own to ensure you have enough. Please take all rubbish with you. Please note: Kids under 12 are free to support young families wanting to experience the bush. Please still add them to the booking as they will not be charged. What is not allowed: shooters and trappers, illegal fishing, motor bikes, quad bikes, chainsaws, and other noisy machines! Killongbutta Road runs off Freemantle Road and is 36 kms from Bathurst. It is 40 kilometres from Orange through Gowan Road that joins Lower Lewis Ponds Road. For your information, On the Stone is a podcast and publishing studio that produces a quarterly magazine for the Freemantle Road community. We have local history to share and can always provide information about our services. We look forward to providing exclusive access to our river site for campers who will appreciate and respect this place which is our home.Exclusive access to our river frontage gives you the privacy and safety you look for when camping in the bush. You will lock the gate behind you to have full access to this campsite established for those who want to be inspired through reconnecting with nature. Enjoy the long leisurely walks on Killongbutta Road or on our property where you can climb the hill to see the magnificent views. You can always drop in for a chat if you want to learn more about the history of this valley and pick up a map with things to do while in the area. Please note the access road to site becomes slippery during wet weather conditions making it unsuitable for pulling camper trailers and difficult for 2 wheel drive vehicles. FIRE SEASON NOTICE Please note fire restrictions apply during the summer fire season. No fires can be lit without a permit and gas stoves, bbqs etc cannot be used during a total fire ban. Go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au to familiarise yourself with the rulings and penalties.

Peace and quiet, and platypus!
So peaceful! Nothing but the sound of birds and the running water. We saw platypus and kangaroos. There is a fair bit of wild thistle around so be careful walking around. Great open-air fire pit to relax around. The water in the river was no greater than knee high so shallow enough to walk around. Plenty of bird life for photography, especially those elusive platypus at dusk and dawn. Would definately love to come back here.

What a magical spot. A beautiful, large grassed area right on the river. You get this all to yourself with the bonus of a loo with a view. Very peaceful and a great place to unwind. Marje’s communication is great and answers any questions you might have. This is one you should definitely visit. Thanks Marje.

A perfect setting
The most perfect setting by the river! The campsite is well kept, large and so peaceful. We didn’t see the platypus but heard it splash around. The drop toilet is so clean and offers the best view 😛 Loved our stay here and will be back. Thanks Marje

So perfect for our rescue dogs
What a beautiful place! My fiancé and 2 rescue dogs had a magical time. We only have a 2wd and rain was expected. Marje would check up on us and update us with the weather which helped us get out before big rains. We will definitely back, it’s very secluded and private and peaceful at this property. Marje is a wonderful host
