All to yourself
100% of recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp felt private.
Our 320-acre property is a pristine piece of paradise halfway between Sydney and Brisbane on the mid-north coast of NSW. Our site is unique, in that once you book you have the whole site to yourself. This is PRIVATE camping. You'll only have to share the river with whoever you bring with you and us! This is truly off-grid stuff - no power, no showers, little to no phone reception but one of the most peaceful places you can experience. There will sometimes be cattle in the paddock you are camped in - so to make this plain there could be cow poo around your area. If that is a worry to you, it's best you camp on a farm without livestock. If you do camp with us, and our cows are in the paddock, they are friendly and won't hurt you, though they can be quite inquisitive. We endeavor to keep our moo friends in other paddocks, but this is a working farm and we have to manage our pastures and put our animals where they are able to be safe and have enough food to stay healthy. If you're here at the right time of year, you might catch a Bass or see a Platypus (but only if you're very, very quiet). There is a lot of bird life (Kingfishers, Wrens, Finches amongst others), reptiles (water dragons and lace monitors), and - of course - our farm animals. Getting away from it all starts right here at Oakvale Cattle Farm.Stare out over the causeway and enjoy the crystal clear water flowing past. Your site is an easy walk away! This site has room for up to four tents/campers but it is one single site. That means that it will only ever be your group that will be camping there, regardless of whether your group is small or large.  Caravans with decent clearance, camper trailers, and tents are all welcome. Self-contained is ideal, however, we can provide a portable toilet for a small additional fee.  The site has Pappinbarra River frontage with low water levels ideal for smaller children, however, it is only a short walk to a deeper hole for the more adventurous. Another reminder that this is a working cattle farm, and there may be farm and animal related items around (including poo). Obviously we try to keep this to a minimum, but if this is an issue for you it may be better for you to find a property that is more tailored to your camping needs. Raised fire pits (that don’t damage our pastures) may be permitted when fire restrictions allow. This is not decided by us, we are bound by law.
Vehicle details
Travel trailers, Pop-up campers, and Cars allowed
We're pretty flexible, all bar the fact that most cars, campervans and motorhomes aren't likely to be 4WD so that might make things tricky if we have a bit of rain. The fifth wheeler is not an option, there wouldn't be enough space to turn it around. Otherwise, tents, camper trailers and high clearance caravans are the go.
Vehicles under 39 feet allowed
I mean, this is a funny one. You'll have to pull in and back out most likely.

Surface type: Grass or field
Look, it's a level site as much as any paddock is level. You may require a little bit of leveling to suit your equipment, but you're not going to park on a ledge or hill.
Surface levelness: Flat

No Fifth wheels, Class A RVs, and Class B RVs

Generators allowed
Generators are permitted but we would prefer that they are not used constantly as this is something that will interrupt our peace and tranquility too.
No electrical hookup
Are you even camping if you need electricity? 🤣 Feel free to bring your own solar panels.
No water hookup
BYO water or use the river water.
No sewage hookup
Grey water can be put out on the paddock. We prefer that self contained campers take their sewage to the public dump point in Wauchope.
No TV hookup
Nah - get out and enjoy nature. Or get away from the world and escape what is on the square box. If you want that stuff, we're sure you'll have the technology to make it work without our help.
What to expect
RV/tent site
You'll have this Hipcamp all to yourself.

Campfires allowed
Firepit, communal. Fires are only permitted during the cooler months when fire permits are not required by our property to comply with legislation. It is important that our paddocks are not burnt in multiple places from different campers. All fires must be in contained, above ground fire-pits that you bring yourselves. You can bring fire wood with you or buy some from our children if you don't have any.
No toilet; campers must bring camp toilets
We prefer that campers are self contained, however we can provide a portable toilet at a small additional fee. Campers who are self contained must not empty their toilets anywhere on the farm other than our designated septic system.
No pets
We have had very bad experiences in the past with dogs being brought to our property that are not socialised with other dogs or people. We are a working farm and have a dog, cat, chickens, ducks, and cattle that are all free ranging in some way. All animals must be notified to us in advance of booking our property and you must be able to contain your animals at all times. This is not negotiable as we have had our animals injured in the past and we can't take this risk again. If your animal causes harm to either animals or people at any time on our property we will ask you to leave immediately. We apologise if this seems harsh, but this is for the safety of our family and animals.
Potable water available
Tap. The river water is perfectly drinkable if you are happy with that. If you require other drinking water, you can access this at the house when you arrive. (Please ask us and we'll show you where the tap is.)
No showers
Bathe in river or stream. BYO Shower if you want to shower, the river is beautiful, clear and fresh but please don't use soap in it, as it is also other people's drinking water.
Pack it out
There is no rubbish collection of any kind on our property so please be ready to take all of your rubbish with you. There is a Waste Collection centre in Wauchope.
Cooking equipment absent
BYO Cooking equipment

Tranquil Stay

We had a great weekend at Heather and Harvey’s. Such a peaceful place and we loved that it was just us. Campsite is in a paddock, close to the river and away from the main house ensuring a tranquil stay. Thank you so much, just what we needed!
