Harper Farms is a fourth generation, family owned cattle property out of the small township of Cangai; just 50 minutes west of Grafton. Located along the Mann River, just one kilometre off the Gwydir Highway, campers will find easy access to our riverfront site. The property is bordered by the Dandahra Creek and the Mann River, and boasts a variety of native bird and wildlife; peacocks, platypus, ducks and the occasional pelican to name a few. The Mann River is open to fishing November - July; and is a local favourite as a kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and swimming destination. Beef cattle and stock horses have been run continuously on the property since the early 1900s, and our friendly horses and cows will often pay a visit to the campsite. Along with our working dogs, we also run a small breeding kennel of Golden Retrievers and Border Collies. Dogs are always welcome on the farm, and we simply ask that camp visitors keep them under their control during their stay. A small shop with basic amenities (groceries, camp supplies, fishing bait, fuel) is located at Jackadgery; a 15 minutes drive east on the Gwydir Highway. To the west of Harper Farms lies the Gibraltar Range which hosts Washpool National Park with walking trails, waterfalls, rainforest and swimming areas. Away from the city lights, the Cangai area offers exceptional stargazing and is popular with keen astronomers and photographers. Our property currently hosts one large campsite; ideal for family and large group gatherings. Booking the site includes complete privacy for your group whether large or small. Our family and friends have gathered at Harper Farms for over a century to enjoy the beauty of the Cangai area, and we are excited for you to come “Camp Cangai” too!Camp Cangai offers easy access for all camping vehicles, making it a great spot for family getaways. The property has spacious river flats that accommodate large groups comfortably. There is extensive river frontage for kayaking, swimming, snorkelling, fishing and relaxing. During seasonable weather there are clean shallow swimming areas for young children. Scattered trees and bush offer privacy and shade. Vehicles are to remain in the designated entry/exit drive and camping areas, but visitors are welcome to bushwalk and explore the river and creek perimeters. Well behaved pets are welcome, but please keep them under your control at all times as we are a working cattle farm. Campfires are allowed as the season permits, and firewood is available at a nightly rate. A rustic pit toilet and camp shelter are on site for your use, but please provide your own drinking water and shower/bathing amenities. Children aged 6 years and under camp for free. Please book children 7 years and older.

River camping at its best

Absolutely amazing camp site we had a great time and are already talking about going back to visit later in the year . Access was easy our wood was ready waiting for us just a short walk from camp . Best site we’ve visited.

Beautiful riverside views !!

We loved camping here! Right beside the Mann River, a huge river frontage all to ourselves (and the cows). The scenery was amazing, birds chirping all day long, fishing and plenty of room for our dogs to run around. We will definitely be returning! Would recommend this campsite to anyone wanting peace and quiet with amazing river location. Heaps of room and easy access for all vehicles.

One of the best Hipcamps we have been to. Beautiful scenery and completely private! Clear instructions from the hosts, we were able to find the camp with ease. We are already planning dates to return!

Family Camping with kids, grandkid

Great spot on The River we thoroughly enjoyed sharing with family campers. Lucky with the weather, for winter, we got plenty of sunshine & only little cloud & few spots rain, & gorgeous night skies. Enjoyed the firewood provided (xtra $), well worth it, had nightly campfire & yummy camp oven cooking! Didn’t venture far with walking, across the bridge & also north up the river a little, but would explore further with more time, only had 2 nights spare. Windy gravel access road from main road not too bad or long👍 Basic longdrop loo very welcome (unlike the free camp across the bridge)🤔 Will try to head back over spring to make good use of the river👌
