Set at the base of the mountains on a beautiful valley floor, located in wine country in the lower Hunter Valley, Cranky Rock gets its name from a 25 tonne sandstone rock that graces our home. The 120 acre working beef and horse farm is situated a scenic 2 hour drive North from Sydney or 1 hour East from Newcastle. Whether you chose to stay of one of our campsites or in our pioneer-style cottage, all visitor being awoken to the natural bush sounds of lyre birds and cooling their heels in the crystal creek at the bottom of the property.  On your way in or out, be sure to check out the boutique village of Wollombi which is just 10 minutes from Cranky Rock, where you'll enjoy wine tasting, fresh produce and quaint cafes. Other must-see's in the area include the Olney State Forest and the Wattagan National Park. The property is located just off a scenic drive, over a 2wd accessible creek crossing. It is peaceful and secluded. Campers can used shared kitchen and bathroom facilities located at the top of the camp area. Dogs are welcome, but as it's a working farm, we ask the remain on leash at all times.

Great Hipcamp. So much space and felt secluded even though long weekend. Lindsay was very friendly and so much knowledge on local area. Fantastic location close to historic Wollombi and Hunter Valley wineries. Enjoyed being off grid with no phone/internet coverage. We’ll be back.

Cranky Rock campsite provided a truly enjoyable experience. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the owner, who kindly guided us to our designated site where our friends were already set up. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, perfect for spending quality time with family and friends. While the campsite itself was excellent, we did encounter a few horse droppings in our area. Although they were dried and didn't emit any odor, it would be beneficial if they were cleaned up for a more pleasant experience. Overall, Cranky Rock is a great choice for those seeking a quiet and relaxing getaway.

Wollombi Camping a must do!
We had an absolutely brilliant time. 8 adults and 4 toddlers and surprisingly, it was an extremely relaxing. The camp ground was perfect, with beautiful views, a little creek for the kids to splash in and the cutest of horses. I cannot speak highly enough about the Hosts Lindsay & Pam. They were so warming and lovely. They made us feel extremely welcome and popped their heads round to check in and tell us some great tales. We will 100% recommend this to anyone staying, especially with kids. Will more than likely be back for sure! Thank you again.

We loved our stay at Cranky Rock. Pat and Lindsay are the most hospitable and friendly hosts. We loved our time chatting with them. Their property is beautifully located in close proximity to the artisan township of Wollombi and a lovely drive from the wine region of the Hunter Valley. Highly recommend!
