Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
Our property contains the first road in and out of Colo - the original road is supported by hand built dry rock walls some of which are over 3 m high. Often referred to as convict built, but more likely built by freemen who were former convicts.  The property housed the load master's residence who controlled the cargo boats that docked to collect the valley’s produce. This was then transported back down the Colo River which flows into the Hawkesbury river and leads to Broken Bay following the coastline down to Old Sydney Town. The beach diagonally across the river was landed upon by members of the First Fleet’s exploratory scouting party on the lookout for quality farm land - some of which is still in production today.  Our property is on the uppermost reach of freshwater but with tidal influence. This deep water allows swimming and canoeing all year round. Our property is adjacent to the only council built canoe launching facilities on the Colo River.

Great spot for a convenient camp. Steve was super friendly and had some fun surprises for my family and I. Would definitely recommend for a close camp to Sydney next to a lovely river.

Site 5 - C- Colo - Just Beautiful..
Overpriced for the location
Disappointing for several reasons. Firstly, this camp is located close to a main road which has a relatively high volume of traffic that’s quite audible from your camp. The road along the perimeter of the property was also rather noisy with lots of motor/dirt bikes, and vehicles coming and going. Secondly, there’s a VERY bright street light illuminating the entire campground and it doesn’t turn off until dawn. Make sure you bring your eye mask so you can sleep. Thirdly, In my opinion, I believe the hosts could be clearer about their property description. For instance, while the camp site is near the Colo River, it is not, as it may seem in the images, close to or accessible from the property. The nearest access point into the river is by a local area council car park located under the main road overpass and bridge, which is approximately 5-10 minutes walk from the property. If you drive for around 20 minutes you’ll come upon a section of the river which is easily accessible, is not too deep, and great for a dip. Lastly, this camp seems to promote groups of campers wanting to party day and night. This was definitely the case over the October long weekend with a group of 10+ campers having a great time at the expense of other campers. Steve, who’s one of the hosts, was very friendly. Later in the evening Steve visited each site and gave out homemade chocolate brownies. Unfortunately, a chocolate brownie doesn’t make for an enjoyable experience.

This was a fantastic camping trip. Our host was very friendly and checked in with us from time to time, to make sure all was going well. Thank you for the brownies Steve! We’ll see you next time.
