Peaceful beauty.
Beautiful property! Nice Northern New Mexico feel. We camped right beside the stream and enjoyed the peaceful starry night and the shade of the trees. We absolutely adored the domestic animals on the property. The dogs were particularly loving and affectionately guarded us. Rock met us at the gate, showed us to our camp spot and told us where we could hike. We had no trouble with the water crossing, even in our little Toyota Scion. The outhouses were very clean. We highly recommend this place and hope to be back.

Rock and his family were very gracious hosts to myself and my little dog and I thoroughly enjoyed my two night stay. There were many options to hike, but I lucked out and they took me horseback riding through the mountains. All of the farm animals were friendly and I absolutely loved the homesteading vibes. 10/10 we will be going back! Definitely encourage a 4WD vehicle or one higher off the ground to navigate the rocky driveway.

Absolutely wonderful stay. We enjoyed this site! No cell service which is a big bonus for me! The GPS took us past the house, so pay attention to the addresses. The log house is very distinctive and you will notice it right away from the main road. We stayed near the river which was great for the kids, swallow beach like area and a cool bridge they got to run across. The river is flowing but not crazy rapids or anything. Remember bug spray! I often forget living in New Mexico bugs exist, but obviously being be water brings em out. So many animals roaming around. Horses, goats, ducks, turkeys, dogs. The kids were so excited to see what animal they would see next. One of the dogs even went on a hike with us. All the animals are very friendly. The horses were beyond patient and sweet to our kids who had never been around horses before. Our dogs loved to play and hang with the other dogs. They would join us for meals and loved pets/belly rubs. That being said please be aware animals are free roaming and if your dogs don’t like animals you should not bring them. There’s lots of space to explore and nice trails on the property. We will definitely be coming back! Thank you for a wonderful time and a great way to end summer break.

Back to Nature...Aah!
It was a longer trip up than we expected, but the views are spectacular and it's ideal for anyone who wants to camp, hike, visit the nearby hot springs, and/or get out of the city and have some time in nature. We were right next to the creek, which made it so relaxing. I really enjoyed all the friendly animals, especially the little Pug, who joined us on our hike and would check in to make sure everything was ok periodically (so cute!) It rained while we were there, which was nice, because the way the thunder rumbles through the valley is surreal and we enjoyed the sound of rain on the tent, then took a nap...we will hopefully be booking again in "the future" (😉😉).

FULL DISCLOSURE. WE DID NOT STAY THE NIGHT. First, a description of our rig and who we are. We have a 2022 Ford Maverick and tow a 17 foot Coleman LT17R. We are weekend warriors and are experienced travel trailer campers since 2007. We prefer to boondock or go to Hipcamp sites. Now, about the hosts of this Hipcamp - they are really nice people and have beautiful spots (that we would have stayed at if we had the right equipment). A couple of things to keep in mind when you decide to go - the route in and out is County Road 65 that winds up the side of the mountian that heads to Hermits Peak. It is narrow with no center line and sharp switchbacks. Next, DO NOT miss the entrance gate to their property. If you do drive past it and go to their second gate (which we did) you will have to back up the hill to the entrance gate OR drive on for at least another mile and use your expert level backing skills to get your rig turned around. If you are car camping you will be fine, but if you are towing or have a big motor home it will be a challenge getting turned around. The entrance gate driveway down is short and a bit steep, with good sized river rocks on the path. Also there is a stream crossing before you get to the camping spots (there is one small spot before the stream for tent camping). I recommend 4x4 and good clearance. The spots after the stream crossing were spectacular. Ultimately we decided to not camp due to predicted rains/concerns about exiting next day.

Rock is rad, ask for what you need
This was our first time using Hipcamp so I recommend asking questions before you book. We wanted primitive car camping and Rock was happy to let us get deeper on the property to have a more remote experience. We got our Subaru Forester in xmode up the road that had been rutted from rains. We explored a hike back further on his land, cooled off in the creek at the entry to the property, and did a day trip to hike a bit of Hermits Peek and dipped into the hot springs. Early June was pretty nice weather, no humidity and no mosquitoes!
