Clyde Home Gun of the Blackfeet Tribe has established this primitive cultural campground to host traveling tourists. The primitive cultural campground serves recreational needs such as campers, bikers and hikers seasonally beginning in the spring and into the early fall. The Home Gun primitive ranch cultural campground also serves as an educational, cultural center for tourists that features Native American storytelling, craft making, dancing and singing. The campground is located adjacent to Glacier National Park off Montana State highway 89 west and Starr School Road (B.I.A 8 West). "Primitive Camp" is defined as a camping area with no utilities, such as electrical, sewer and running water. The project is a design and a build development project by Clyde Home Gun, a tribal member, on land held in Trust by the United States Government. Majestic views
The beauty and the location between everything. It was truly breathtaking stay. Bring a tent that can take on wind, we had one night it was windy. But it was still an awesome stay. I’ll be back.

Amazing views
Very friendly greeting from our host when we arrived and we were instructed to park anywhere we wanted. (Arriving early let us get a great spot) We chose a high plateau off to the left that had amazing views. We could have gone higher but were pulling a 19’ trailer so were happy where we landed (the higher areas were pretty steep and there were lots of dips and bumps) 2 others showed up and we hardly noticed them. We kept closer to the South end so the sun didn’t go down as quickly as the people who tucked into the hill. It was later in the season so a nice cool breeze kept our trailer at a comfortable temperature. It would have been too hot in the heat of summer. The port-a-potty was clean and tucked in the trees down the hill. We were careful about not accumulating garbage so we could dump a small bag full into the park garbage can when we went into Glacier or into the bin when we filled up at a gas station.

A Slice of Paradise
Y'all... This is such a great place to stay. We are so grateful to Clyde and Melanie for sharing their little slice of paradise with us! They were gracious hosts with Melanie calling to check in and make sure we had everything we needed; and Clyde was super responsive when we had some noisy neighbors. As we all know, camping in bear country isn't without risk but we felt very safe with Clyde looking out for us. We enjoyed easy access to Glacier, gorgeous sunsets, sweeping views and daily visits from the Home Gun Hounds. Oh, and take some time while you're there to visit the Blackfeet roadside display and the Plains Indian Museum while you're there to learn more about the people who have inhabitated this special place for thousands of years. We sure loved our time at Home Gun Primitive Camp and are planning to stay there again on our next visit to Glacier.

Clyde was a great host that met me at the entrance to his property. Huge area of land to pick your spot. Some shade, mostly wild field. Very quiet and out in the sticks. I saw deer and his 2 friendly dogs.

What a privilege to get to stay here! Gorgeous views, great host, only 8 miles from St Mary. We needed 4WD to get to some of the farther back properties, so we’re glad we planned ahead for that. So many beautiful spots to choose from.

Camping on the Range
I did a cross country road trip with a group of 12 (family, adults & kids) and stayed at a few hipcamps thus far. Our group enjoyed Clyde’s land for the privacy and unique hilltop camping out on the range with three roof top tents. The horses roaming around were an added bonus, and the pronghorns were fun to see heading out to the camp spot and we had no issues at all with communication/directions with the host. Overall a great experience and memories to cherish for a lifetime! Definitely make this a stop if you want a secluded, memorable camping experience.
