We had a great time tent camping at the Lonesome Loon! It was a clean, quiet and private experience. We fell asleep to the song of the northern loon and woke up to the calls of bald eagles from the distance. The old military base that you drive through to get to the location is a tad eerie but once you get to the spot it’s perfect. Would definitely come back!

Rustic getaway on peaceful lake
Lonesome Loon was everything we wanted it to be. The location was private and quiet, nestled among the maples and cedars on a super clean, sandy bottom Sporley Lake. The outdoor space has lots of room for sitting and playing, building a campfire, sun bathing, fishing from the dock. Floaties and kayaks and a stand-up paddle board. The kitchen is one of the best stocked I have ever seen. They have everything you would need. The screened in kitchen is a fun place to hang if it rains or to get away from the mosquitos, which, surprisingly, weren’t bad at all. Darts, cards and many board games on hand. Sauna and shower. The outhouse was not an issue at all. Well maintained and thoughtfully curated place! Keep in mind that the owners stay in an RV on the property. They were kind enough to give us a pontoon boat tour around the lake. We love our space, so we were grateful they left the day after we arrived. I would heartily recommend the Lonesome Loon if you are looking for a serene and rustic getaway.

Very accommodating hosts and a beautiful site! Rayme and John met us upon arrival, got a fire going for us to enjoy after a very long day of travel, and were helpful in getting our RV positioned correctly. Great hosts, great location.

Lake kayaking with eagles nest view
We had so much fun camping on Rayme and John's property! They provided free fire wood, a grill grate for cooking over the fire, and 4 shared kayaks! The lake is crystal clear and beautiful to kayak on because the water is so calm. There's an eagles nest on the right side of the lake past all the houses I highly recommend checking it out while kayaking. We also walked around the dirt road and driveway area and found a little sand dune area where you could 4wheel. We heard owls all night and they sung us to sleep. This is such a hidden jem and an amazing get away in the UP!
