The land around Bear Lake was divided into 10-acre parcels in the 1970s using an original logging trail. Logging artifacts have been found on the property. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town.  It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk!  There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town!  Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay.  A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history.  Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed.  Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either!  You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Cram's General Store, where there's also a laundromat.  Burns landing has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior.  Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook.  There are new bike trails if you're into that as well!   Stay awhile.  You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!Our small cabin is overlooking Bear Lake to the west and the sunsets are amazing.  It is located on a small hill, a little walk from the parking area and amenities, which include a privy, drinking water, communal fire ring, screen tent with chairs, private river access, electrice device charging station, and a picnic table.  Inside the cabin is a kitchen counter, a dining table with two camp chairs, and a futon couch that is also a bed; (you’ll be glad to know we’ve updated the mattress!) There is no electricity or running water, but a big buddy heater is available if needed. Water jugs are available to fill at our water source. There is a picnic table outside next to cabin. The Yellow Dog River is close by and provides swimming and fishing opportunities.   Bear Lake has a variety of wildlife, which you can visit from one of our kayaks or canoe, which are free of charge. There are no open fires allowed at the cabin site, due to the old growth forest in which the cabin sits. You can enjoy a campfire, however, at our communal fire pit. Out property is between a lake and a river, so there will be some bugs, especially in the early summer. Plan accordingly! When dowsing the right spot for the cabin, we found some pretty awesome energy lines, and put the cabin there!  Plan to stay awhile.  You'll be glad you did!

Bear Lake meets da Yellow Dog River
Great place to stay, great host!
Susan was a great host! We spent two nights at her tent site and couldn't have been happier. Her property is beautiful, reasonably secluded and she really puts in effort to keep harmony with the nature all around her. We brought our two dogs and were a little embarrassed at their behavior towards our host (they had a hard time getting used to a "stranger" around) but Susan handled it like a champ and was very understanding 🙂 She's very knowledgeable about the area and took us to a nice dark beach to watch the night sky and look for northern lights (no luck this time!) and she had flashlights to use if you're interested in the fames "yooperlites"! Heads up on wildlife in the area: I had a flying squirrel glide past about 6 inches in front of my face on the way down to our site one night and what I'm pretty sure was a Barred Owl wake us all up with its haunting calls at about 3 am. While both made me jump, both were pretty cool experiences. Overall, 10/10 experience. When we head back up to hunt for more Kona, we'll definitely be staying here again

Bear Lake meets da Yellow Dog River
I would recommend this site to anyone wanting to get away, have some peace and quiet, and stay on well and thoughtfully maintained land. Sue was an amazing host, very available to communicate with, give suggestions for sites to see, food to eat, and everything in between. The tent site was perfect, 15 feet from the beautiful river, the sounds and seclusion provided me some of the best sleep I've had in a long time. If you are curious at all, do the foraging tour. Sue is highly knowledgeable and in love with the land. As my first hipcamp experience, this is going to be hard to beat! Thank you Sue for hosting such a fine ecosystem for me to gather my thoughts and recenter myself with the Lord. I hope to see you again someday and enjoy the peace and quiet between the Yellow Dog River and Bear Lake!

Cozy UP Sunset Cabin
We had the most amazing time on Susan’s property! The cabin was cute and cozy and secluded among the beautiful forest. The river was also very relaxing and we had a beautiful view of the lake right out the door. Truly a magical place and Susan was the kindest host! We hope to be back again soon. Side note the tent spot also looked incredible.

Lovely Stay!
Had a super relaxing stay at Susan't property! We rented both the cabin and tent site so one of us could camp and the other had the rustic cabin. Susan is a thoughtful and caring host, and her property is gorgeous. We took her wild edibles course, which was fascinating, I learned so much. She is an excellent teacher. Cabin and outhouse were very clean. Susan was super responsive to all messages and requests, super accomodating, even messaged us when there was a severe weather alert. You park a short walk from the cabin, as well as the tent area which is fine. Location is central to do a lot of things in the area.
