The Nest
Amazing glamping
Penelope's The Nest was great. The space was very thoughtful, with fresh linens and pillows on the bed, ample firewood, drinking water, and fresh towels for the hot shower. Penelope also has great recommendations for the area which made this a very memorable weekend.

The Pemaquid
BEWARE--FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!
The pictures on the website of the Pemaquid look lovely and inviting, but the reality is NOTHING like those photos! The tent is in very bad state of repair. There are tarps draped over it to keep it from leaking, duct tape on the windows to make them close, most zippers are broken, has holes in many places, and it smells musty. The bed is actually just two metal cots pushed together and very uncomfortable. The toilet is a porta-potty that was full of spider webs. The place overall was dusty, dark, uncomfortable and smelled bad. We had a 3-day reservation and decided to leave after the first night. We asked the owner for a refund because the actual tent looks nothing like the advertised photos, but she has so far not responded. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean, pleasant glamping experience!! I wish I could post the real photos in this review!!!

The Nest
Heaven
Thistledown Farm is a very special place. Located at a nice distance from noisier attractions/towns, slightly down the Pemaquid peninsula, a short drive from small Maine harbor towns and many natural attractions. Property is peaceful and bucolic, very well-maintained. Thoughtfulness and love has gone into every detail, the hostess (Penny) has a vision for authentic midcoast Maine guest experience that highlights the nature, charm and beauty of this part of Maine. You can’t help but love this place! This is a rustic, natural and authentic experience, with thoughtful touches and details that makes for something special. The buildings (Pennysworth Barn, Sheep Shed, Udder Heaven) are authentic works of art. All envisioned and constructed by Penny, like visiting a wonderful and immersive museum, with sunshine, fresh air and no fuss. You will be comfortable and welcomed here. My favorite places (wish I had more time): La Verna Nature Preserve; Round Pond - quaint town with 2 lobster pounds on the harbor, best prices for lobster dinner that I saw while driving the entire midcoast for 5 days, The Ro and King Ro’s market for provisions and a beer on the patio, New Harbor for lobsters, live music, drinks and daily charters to Monhegan Island, Pemaquid light, Pemaquid Beach and the Shuck Shack in Newcastle (amazing fresh oysters, gorgeous cocktails and live music). Low key and without pomp, this part of Maine is beautiful, relaxing and authentic. Thank you Penny! 🙏.

The Nest
Our host Penny was super nice upon our arrival, giving us great recommendations to a local brewery and to a local swimming hole. Overall, we had a great stay! The tent was a little stuffy due to the bug net being broken, but we still had a great night sitting around the fire and taking in the stars.

The Nest
Dog friendly camp
I had a great time in The Nest (aka Penelope's Perch) with my partner and dog. It's a small camp ground behind Thistledown Farm - a bed and breakfast run by Penelope. There was unlimited firewood which is a huge bonus for me who just likes to cook and sit by the fire all day and night. There's also a propane grill if it's raining. Penelope had some great recommendations like the swimming hole down the road. You need to bring all your own cookware to the camp but there is fresh water available at the main farm. The yurt was a little musty and the bug netting was broken on the door so you could only shut the canvas flap. It would have been nice to have some fresh air in there (specially with an old farting dog). There's also an out door shower and a porta-potty nearby. Overall we had a really great time and would highly suggest it to anyone.
