Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato.  After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby. We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

Camper Van #5 Parking in the Forest
Would definitely book again:)
BEAUTIFUL! Very easy to get to, clean, accommodating, and was so nice to have a hot shower! We were completely alone so that was a surprise, but nice and quiet and peaceful! the MOST spectacular sunset, Definitely in the top 5 I have ever seen!!. Bathrooms were super clean. I would say if the campsite was packed it might be a little difficult to maneuver around. If we were to book again, we would’ve done parking four for the rooftop Jeep or camper van instead of five.

Camper Van #4 Parking in the forest
Beautiful, quiet, well maintained
Very surprised by how beautiful and calm the campsite was! We chose this campsite due to its proximity to Haleakala Park for the sunrise, and it was honestly one of our favorite spots on the island.

Mountain Cabin 1 of 3 in the Forest
A Rare Find
Every once in a while you find a rare gem. That's was this was The location great - off the beaten path and away from crowds. The accommodations comfortable and clean. It didn't hurt that it also has a spectacular view. The icing on the cake for us was that it was virtually scent-free. We are very sensitive to many chemicals and scented products like dryer sheets and laundry detergent. Scented air fresheners are the absolute worst. I detected virtually none here. What a bonus! I will say that we were fortunate to have the whole campground to ourselves the entire stay and if there had been others thereat the same time, it would have felt too cramped and probably would have been too noisy since the cabins are right next to one another. We'd definitely stay here again as long as we could confirm that we'd have no "neighbors" in the other cabins.

Ground Tent site in the forest
We spent 2 lovely nights in our own tent at Alika's. The hot shower was good after a cold night. For the second night we borrowed a warm blanket from Alika as it was colder than we thought. The view from the property and the starry sky at night are impressive. You can hear the nearby road a little but there are hardly any cars here at night. There are various picnic benches, a grill, a sink and toilets. At night lights come on via a motion detector and help you find the toilets. Alika and his wife were very nice and helpful. We felt comfortable and would come again.
