Our "Off Grid" campsite is nestled in the midst of a mini-Rainbow Eucalyptus Rainforest, with native Ohia trees sparsely located throughout our property. Hapu'u Ferns are also within our mini-Rainbow Eucalyptus Rainforest. Enjoy the stunning 90 - 100 degree ocean views of Hawaii Island's Western Coastline, as well as the new Volcanic Vent (Known as Fissure 8) created by the 2018 Eruption of the Kileaua Volcano. The Hawaii Volcano National Park (HVNP) is a 14 mile or 20 minute drive from our campsite. HVNP has a visitor's center to get information about the park, hiking trails throughout its boundaries, steam vents and the awe-inspiring caldera, which is the location of the volcano's lava pool. At night, the glow from the lava in the caldera can be seen at the park. Our campsite is also an 18 mile or 29 minute drive from the Hilo International Airport and the town of Hilo, Hawaii.Experience relaxing and enjoying in your own private cabin. You'll be nestled amongst the apple banana plants, citrus and guava trees, and a mini rain forest of Rainbow Eucalyptus trees, Giant ferns, and many other species of flora. Enjoy the sights and sounds of this tranquil tiny cabin location in the tropics, alive with the beautiful, lulling sounds of the Cocqui Frogs, star filled and moonlit skies. Be marveled by the quick wit of the homestead's Muscovy ducks. As the cabin's namesake suggests, our Muscovy ducks are as tropical and cute as can be. The cabin bedroom sleeps 2 campers in a full sized bed. The 2 additional campers can either sleep on the lanai, in the kitchen area, or tent (camper's own tent or rented tent from hosts). The lanai can accommodate 1 cot and the kitchen can accomadte 2 cots (campers own cots or rented cots from hosts).

The Tropical Duck
Quaint & Comfortable Escape
The Tropical Duck is as quaint as it sounds, and was the *perfect* retreat away from the hustle and bustle of my busy life. Esther and Christopher's land is sweeping and beautiful, and the flock of ducks greeting me in the morning was a sweet way to start each day! All of the details are covered here (they even give you treats to give to the ducks, haha) and the full-sized bed was super comfy. Wifi was strong enough for me to have a smooth zoom meeting and finding the farm was super easy. Looking forward to coming back on my next trip to the Southside!

Thank You!
My family and I loved staying in the tropical duck. What Chris and Esther have built there in paradise is just that, nice and cozy. They are some of the best people and will make you feel right at home. 10/10 will do again.

The Tropical Duck
Exceptional hosts and a paradise
We recently had the pleasure of staying at Tropical Duck, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of a beautiful scenery, this glamping offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Surrounded by vibrant flora and fauna and the beautiful ducks, the campsite feels like a secluded haven. The sounds of exotic birds and the gentle rustling of trees leaves in the breeze added a soothing soundtrack to our stay. Comfortable bed, and every detail was clearly thought out to ensure guests' comfort. Tropical Duck goes above and beyond with its amenities. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed to prepare our meals. The hosts Esther & Christopher were super friendly, felt like a familiar place. They were always available and offering helpful recommendations for local spots. Their passion for providing an outstanding experience for their guests really shone through. If you are on Big Island, this is your place to be!

We had a great time! Loved the ducks and the cabin was lovely. Very secluded but only 30 minutes from Hilo and accessible to the rest of the island. Esther and Chris were great hosts. We’ll definitely be back!
