A little cabin in Cornwall that’s handily close to the Eden Project

This shepherd’s hut-style cabin in Cornwall is not far from the lovely town of St Austell, the sailing opportunities at Fowey, and the beach at Par. But the place it’s closest to of all is the place you must visit while you’re here: The Eden Project. Tucked away in its own enclosed garden, The Cabin is just two miles away from Cornwall’s most popular tourist attraction. It offers a cute, cosy, and convenient place to stay in central southern Cornwall – and it’s dog friendly too.

The cabin is a solo hire site; you’ll be the only glampers here and won’t have to share the fenced, enclosed garden with anyone. But that doesn’t mean you’ll be in the middle of nowhere either. The cabin is in the heart of St Blazey, tucked between houses and the railway line that serves Par. It’s an easy location to get to – even if you’re arriving on public transport as Par Station is less than a mile from here. You can walk to a pub and a shop easily. It’s just a little further to the beach at Par Sands and even the Eden Project is reachable on foot if you don’t mind a couple of miles of ups and downs. If you have a car, there’s plenty more to explore: Polkerris, Fowey, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Mevagissey… the list goes on and on.

Back at base in St Blazey, you have everything you need to rest in between your days out. In some ways the cabin has a classic shepherd’s hut feel with a curved and clad roof over a double bed, a kitchenette with a butler sink and a log burner. But it’s also modern too. It has electricity and running water to power an electric kettle, microwave and smart TV. There’s WiFi too. And the flushing toilet and hot-water shower are en suite so it’s not too rustic here. Outside, there’s an electric grill and a fire pit with outdoor seating and a hammock slung between trees so you can kick back and relax while dinner’s cooking. But, if you don’t fancy it, don’t cook. After all, in this handy location, there are pubs and takeaways just up the road.

The shepherds hut is brand new and situated on its own plot of land and has good enclosed parking. Garden to enjoy with hammock and fire pit. Fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster. Free wifi and television. Outside electric BBQ/Grill. Food shopping within walking distance. Fowey 3 miles Polkerris 2 miles Eden Project 2 miles Mevagissey 10 miles Newquay 18 miles As well as a large area outside the Shepherds Hut where their vehicle can be left safely, there is a covered dining area, also a pleasant enclosed garden with a fire pit and hammock.

Nearby attractions

Did we mention that The Cabin is near The Eden Project? The gardens and biospheres of this sustainable and educational tourist attraction are two miles away – though it’s a little further if you go by car. St Blazey seamlessly bleeds into Par where you’ll find the closest beach, Par Sands, which is good for swimming. It’s not much further to the south-west facing Polkerris Beach (three miles). And this is Cornwall so there are plenty more to choose from. Fowey (three miles) is a sheltered estuary town where there are sailing opportunities and, in the other direction, the market town of St Austell (four miles) is a useful hub. On its outskirts, you’ll find plenty of places to visit including the St Austell Brewery, The Pinetum Gardens, the Wheal Martyn Clay Works and The Shipwreck Museum. A little further along the coast are the Lost Gardens of Heligan (10 miles) and, beyond that, the harbour village of Mevagissey.

Food and drink

If you’re cooking for yourselves, there’s a handy Co-op within walking distance of The Cabin and, if you don’t fancy cooking, there’s a choice of fish and chip shops too. There’s a pub, The Packhorse Inn, very close by but (at the time of writing) it did not serve food. For a meal out, try The Four Lords in Blazey Gate or one of the options in Par: The Par Inn, The Welcome Home Inn or The Ship Inn. There are yet more options for picking up supplies and eating out in St Austell (four miles).
