Magical, secluded glamping in the Wye Valley, yards from the Offas Dyke trail

Traditional Yurt. Hideaway Hut. Camping Cabin. Gypsy Camp.

Each of these spaces have been created using upcycled materials, naturally made, as if they have magically grown out of their surroundings. They are on the edge of sunny dry stone walled paddocks, skirting the ancient mossy woodland that is Hudnalls nature reserve.

The spaces are designed for adults, secluded, each space has its own privacy. Peaceful, Self contained, we provide everything you need, for all weathers, so you can pack light.

Embrace the outdoors while nestled in your big warm bed, from which you can gaze at the tree canopy. Each accommodation, has a fully equip kitchen, a woodfired hot tub, open air hot shower, separate loo, breakfast included.

We are in an AONB, on the Offa’s Dyke Path, and Wye Valley ramble. So many Footpaths for you and your dog to explore. We provide maps and route to local pub.

Canoe the River Wye, mountain bike the Forest of Dean. Fill up with fresh air, daydream, listen to birdsong, forest bathe, gaze at the stars.

Gypsy Caravan with bathhouse
I was greeted on arrival by a gorgeous collie dog, who showed me around the accomodation (in return for a game of fetch). The gypsy caravan itself was very cute and cosy, and safe for solo travellers as Oak cottage is close by, where Anna lives with her family. The accomodation is well equipped for cooking, washing up etc. with a lovely hot outdoor shower. Don't leave without using the bathouse. Such a relaxing experience. Perfect way to end my visit.

Lovely place!
So cosy and comfortable. Loads of firewood and matches provided, as well as eggs and milk which was very kind, along with all kitchen utensils needed. Two adorable dogs that paid us a few visits as well!

Gypsy Caravan with bathhouse
Gypsy Caravan hideaway.
We didn't know exactly what to expect, but when we discovered our site it was beyond our expectations. A little slice of woodland paradise. We got lucky with the weather, but we needn't have worried, the canopy of the trees was enough protection alone. Sitting by our outdoor fireplace after cooking up a meal whilst the bathouse filled up ready for a relaxing dip in the middle of a beautiful bit of woodland. I dunno, sounds pretty good to me. There are a few different lovely walks along paths around the local area, that are well signposted. (The family also left some hand drawn basic maps/routes around the area, which was lovely) The gypsy caravan was so cosy, and beautifully decorated. The fresh eggs, milk, flour, and a lemon were a really nice touch. And if you haven't flipped a breakfast pancake outside in the woods in the morning, what have you been doing??? We walked quite easily to Tintern Abbey and found some lovely spots along the way. We will certainly look at returning sometime, maybe to check out the yurt site. Did I mention the outdoor shower wrapped around an oak tree? Pretty special.

Gypsy Caravan with bathhouse
It was amazing, just wow
We had the best time at the gypsy caravan and bath house. We are looking to rebook to one of there other sites. The supper hamper was absolutely stunning and we cooked it on the BBQ. We did take other ingredients so we managed to have steak, garlic and mushroom sauce with the freshly picked salad that was supplied. Just wow! Definitely recommended

Hideaway Hut on edge of woodland
Decompress here
Decompress here. What a gorgeous spot with so many thoughtful details. I defy anyone not to be thoroughly relaxed by a hot tub in this shady glade. We loved cooking on the stonewall bbq and waking up under the leaves. A really special experience at the Hideaway Hut 💚💚💚

Gypsy Caravan with bathhouse
Had a great time on a spontaneous solo trip, staying in the Gypsy caravan. The hosts were very welcoming (including their adorable dog), friendly and willing to share information about the area with good places to visit. The area is amazing with fantastic views and wildlife. The outdoor shower is private, as well as being lovely and hot even in the cooler mornings. The camp had everything I needed to be comfortable and more. My first trip after settling in was a walk down to Tintern to go round the Abbey there which is stunning and the walk itself is beautiful along the river Wye. The bathhouse was a fantastic addition to use after this walk to rest my feet ready for the next day. I borrowed one of the electric bikes they offer to go see more nearby sites and towns and visited a local nature reserve where I saw a family of wild boar 🐗! The bike itself was great and being electric made the journey much easier, Anna (host) gave me a quick demo of how to use it which was helpful as never used an electric before as well as handed me some maps with routes to bike along that helped me navigate around. On my last evening I used the bbq which was easy to set up and a nice way to end my trip. I would recommend the place to friends/family and to check out their other accommodations (yurts and cabin) as they look great to. 🏕

Nearby attractions

Oak Cottage is situated on the Offas Dyke Path and the Wye Valley Ramble, so there are plenty of walking and cycling trails on your doorstep. Hire canoes for a day of adventure on the Wye (all hire outlets let you hire for half or full days and pick you up downstream, so you need only drift along with the current). Tintern is a 10-minute drive away, home to several pubs as well as a vineyard, brewery and the gothic Tintern Abbey in all its roofless beauty. If you’re a Netflix fan, you might also want to visit the main filming spots from Sex Education, all nearby – The house Otis lives in with his mum is just up the road from Oak Cottage and so is the corner shop they regularly visit; Anna will happily give you directions to both if you fancy trying your luck at getting a cameo role! And for the film buffs, the Forest of Dean is around a 20-minute drive away; J.K. Rowling lived here as a child, likely why it features in the film version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as well as other films like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Food and drink

The Miners (01594836632) in Sling is a 15-minute drive away; the gastropub has won lots of awards for their modern British food made from local produce and is made even better when paired with their servings of local ale. Owner, Steve, has worked with some of the best chefs in the country, and it shows. The oak-beamed Globe Inn (01594528300) in Alvington is under five minutes away in the car or a little more than a half-hour walk. It has a cosy log fire in winter and a good beer garden in summer. The Ostrich Inn (01594833260) in Clearwell takes around 20 minutes to reach. It's dog friendly and has a large walled garden and outdoor patios for enjoy the summer sunshine.
