Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
My intent for the camper is to offer a comfortable upgrade from primitive camping. It has A/C, Wifi, a hot shower, full kitchen and a comfortable bed with clean linens. It isn't, however, like a luxury hotel room or 5 star Airbnb. It's still camping! I designed the space for mindful, experienced campers. It's a vintage Avion camper. 34’ with a deck just steps away from the Huerfano River in the Huerfano Valley, on the east side of the Sangre de Cristo's directly opposite the Great Sand Dunes. It is a rural, dark sky area 40 minutes from the nearest grocery store or gas station. It is strongly recommended that you arrive well stocked and gassed up. Also, arrive before sunset as cell service can be sketchy and it is a dark, rural area and not well marked. 1 hour 12 minutes from Pueblo, Trinidad and Alamosa. The East access of Medano Pass on Hwy 69 is 15 miles. Mosca Pass (east Access) is 15 miles on a dirt road. Lily Lake Trailhead is close by too. Guests have access to the river, outside deck and a charcoal grill. There is a fire pit which can be used responsibly depending on any burn bans. The vintage camper has a fridge, propane stove, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker. I have well water and offer a Brita filter pitcher. The shower in the bathroom has a 5 gallon hot water heater but there is also an outdoor shower with hot water. It is open (not enclosed) so you may want to wear shorts or swimsuit when you use it. Horses and dogs are welcome for an additional fee. Please keep dogs on leash on property. I have 2 barn cats, a German Shepherd and a horse. Dogs must be crated if left in your absence. Please do not allow dogs on furniture. The camper is in a rural area which we share with all manner of wildlife, including mice. I try my best but you may experience these critters. Also, watch out for snakes and do not remove any animals from the land, including horny toads! The Huerfano Valley is east of the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains in Southern Colorado, directly opposite the Great Sand Dunes. I offer a redone 1981 Vintage Avion trailer for guests to enjoy as a basecamp for adventures. The camper is just steps away from the river. I had a deck built and there is a charcoal grill and fire pit which can be used responsibly and only if there is no fire ban. This valley is known for hippie communes in the 60's and 70's and my adobe house which sits near the camper was built by a commune dweller, Susie, a bead artist. Before the hippies came, this valley was populated by farmers and ranchers, mostly of hispanic heritage as evidenced by the many historic cemeteries in the area. My place is 40 minutes from gas and groceries, so show up well stocked. We are a dark sky community so it is best to arrive before sunset. There are no street lights and the site is very remote. Cell service can be sketchy. The eastern access to the Mosca Pass Trailhead, which is a 4 mile hike or horseback ride to the Great Sand Dunes is 15 miles up the road. Motorized anything nor mountain bikes are allowed on that trail. The east access to Medano pass, a 4x4 road to the Sand Dunes, is a 15 mile drive from here. I am a 10 mile drive on a dirt road from Hwy 160 from which you can get to Alamosa and all the hot springs in the San Luis Valley, about an hour and a half from here. Salida and rafting the Arkansas River Gorge is about a 90 minute drive.

Huerfano River Vintage Camper
Cozy Camper with CHARACTER!
I loved staying at Sally’s camper — it was super cozy and well-decorated! She gave detailed directions — there was no shot that we would get lost on the way there. The patio was great with comfortable seats and a feeling of privacy (since it was facing away from the rest of the property). I would absolutely stay here again (and for longer!) the next time I’m in the area.
