We packed our bags and traded life in the city for the fresh air of the country. Now our kids have the space to roam and get to experience life on a ranch. This once neglected ranch is slowing starting to become the gem that it is. When we aren't working on fixing the place up we are sharing it with friends and family. We love to see people enjoy the majestic oaks, the cool breeze and the breathtaking views of the city...on clear days you can even see to the ocean. Camp amongst the inner workings of this small ranch with goats, horses, and chickens. Nestled in a mountian side valley of mature oak trees and large boulders there is much hiking and exploring to be done. Thunder Oaks Ranch is at the end of a 2 mile dirt road so high clearance 4x4 is recommended in the winter months.

Thunder Oaks Ranch
A hidden gem!
We really enjoyed our stay at Thunder Oaks Ranch! It was a unique experience and the host Brandon was very friendly, allowing our children to feed the goats with some pumpkin that he provided. The property is quite large with plenty of area to walk around and a great view of the city lights at night. If you are looking for a quiet, private campground this is the spot for you! It was nice not having a bunch of people around like at traditional campsites. Also, it should be noted that this is a private property and NOT a public campground. So, it is unreasonable to show up at 1:00 in the morning like Rosa A. who made the poor review. Overall, we were very happy with the stay and definitely plan on coming back.

Thunder Oaks Ranch
They approved our reservation and accepted the payment and guaranteed that the gates wouldn't close and we would be able to arrive at any time. It was until 10:30 p.m. that they decided to cancel the reservation and tell us it was too late and their goats would wake them up, we were left in San Diego on a BUSY WEEKEND with no reservation. Very unprofessional and would not recommend.

Thunder Oaks Ranch
Had a great stay at Thunder Oaks! The host Brandon and his family were extremely gracious, even giving us a parting gift of homemade loquat jam. We had our pick of campsite from the huge property, went for a nice hike onsite, and got to hang out with the animals - including horses, goats, dogs, and chickens. I would definitely recommend this site for a private and scenic camping trip.
