Shííma koh is a beautiful space nestled in the Aptos hills. We are 15 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes from town, all whilst being surrounded by redwoods. It’s a quiet place with a beautiful view of the valley and natural spring water. We are a family with a few dogs and livestock who live here. And welcome you to our home. The plateau is a beautifully leveled campsite covered in wood chips for comfort. The plateau has a spectacular view of the valley. We are located between Aptos Hills and Watsonville. Only 10 minutes away from the nearest grocery store in either direction. This location is 20 minutes from the beach either direction. Here you will wake up to songbirds, a roster and goats grazing in the morning. By night you will be surrounded by a start sky and owls flying by. The ambience of shííma koh is nature centered with the conveniences of a compost toilet, hot shower and outdoor kitchen. Please bring your own fire wood or purchase some here. We charge 10$ per extra vehicle and offer $5 for Wi-Fi. Note* There is a semi steep dirt hill to access the amenities. Come prepared. And we apologize that we have yet to construct wheel chair access accommodations. We hope to always improve Shííma Koh for community access and accommodations.

Not a great experience.
GOOD – good directions provided. – Ani responded quickly/kindly through the whole process, including supplying us with a refund. BAD (problems that are unlikely to change) – narrow sites (more like long parking spots), no space between sites. – the animals (goats/dogs/chickens/roosters), are directly across driveway from the campsites or directly alongside the upper campsite (ours) – chaotic place, piles of lumber and loose windows/doors piled alongside the structures for campers, like the bathroom building, random hardware scattered around, a sink stuffed full of towels with glass bottles in it, used bottles and cigarettes left on lots of surfaces, like that. UGLY (big misses that can be improved/prevented for the future) – at 2am a goat began screaming, did not stop for 1-2 hrs. At 4am the roosters started. A guy who worked there came down some time into the goat screaming but wasn’t able to help. – No one greeted us, someone said he’d show us around but never did. Others had to show us around/give us the wifi, which we had paid for. – We set up our tents, then dogs who live there came and pissed on our tents and pestered us. – composting toilet unusable, sickening smell, like it had never been sawdusted/maintained (I’m used to compost toilets). – DIRTY shared spaces, kitchen/shower/sinks. I hope that this review is taken in the spirit I’m giving it - so others aren’t seeing only good reviews and booking when a more serene site is needed, like I wish I had.

Animal Camp !!
Partner and I were traveling through and stayed here for two nights. Absolutely wonderful experience! There were goats, turkeys, roosters (bring earplugs if you mind the roost) bunnies, guinea pigs, dogs, cats and a big old turtle !! And it’s a 10min drive to Capitola/Santa Cruz area which is really nice. Overall 10/10 HipCamp and would absolutely come again. Ani and family were lovely 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Must Love Roosters
Stepped in dog poop right off that bat. Made a horrible first impression. Never really got over it. It was from the owners dog. Seemed negligent. The spot was mostly flat which was nice. The neighboring campsite was way too close. We bothered our neighbor in the morning. You can hear cars driving by on the road below all night. There were some owls that came in the middle of the night, that was the highlight. Then the rooster went full blast at 5am. If you need to wake up at 5 then its perfect. Can’t recommend unfortunately and I really hate to leave a bad review.

Nice place
Clean shower (there is hot water) and nice atmosphere. The dogs and goats are friendly, we were a bit surprised that they were roaming freely. Great for one night.

Ani and her family are incredibly kind, vibrant people. My son and hers really bonded and I’m looking forward to a trip back again. The land is very peaceful and we enjoyed meeting all of the animals whom they’ve provided refuge to. Thank you again Ani!

Shiima Koh: Where the Animals Are
Step aside, humans—at Shiima Koh, the real VIPs are the animals! Sure, the people were friendly and all, but let’s be honest: the dogs, goats, and chickens totally stole the spotlight. Even Scrumples, the dog with an attitude, won us over. The goats? Absolutely curious and up for a chat. Chickens were everywhere, and there were even a few guinea pigs thrown in for good measure. But the true headliner? A 40-year-old tortoise who’s living his best life and really knows how to enjoy a shower from the garden hose! Now, let’s talk about the rooster—this guy was convinced that sunrise should be announced loudly and repeatedly. He definitely kept us on our toes. The bathroom situation was... rustic, with a traditional compost toilet that came with its own aroma. But hey, we powered through! The other amenities were top-notch, and the views? Chef’s kiss! My buddy and I soaked in the morning scenery over the valley and topped off our days with some epic stargazing at night. All in all, a wild (and wildly fun) experience!
