Our cozy, rustic off grid yurt is located 20 min west of Golden in the Bleaberry Valley. It is nestled on the side of Willow Bank mountain. The views and nearby activities here are world class. The yurt has the necessities you need to have a comfortable stay anytime of year but is a very basic and rustic place, best suited to adventure seekers. Before booking this large TENT please take a minute and read all about the unique amenities (or lack thereof!!!) that we offer... or don’t :-).This hand built, off grid yurt offers a very unique experience. The yurt is about 800sq/ft with a low ceiling loft that adds another 100sq/ft or so. It is essentially a large, insulated, round tent. It is a very open concept. There is one room with a proper door and that is the bathroom. The sleeping areas are partitioned off. The loft has two single beds that can be pushed together easily. The main floor has two bed "nooks" one at ground level with a queen bed and one just above it with a queen bed. All the beds have linens and are ready for sleeping. The yurt has a full kitchen with all the kitchen basics you need to prepare and serve meals. It has a propane stove with an oven and a broiler and a small fridge with a small freezer. For heat the yurt offers a wood stove that keeps the space cozy year round. Firewood is provided. It is a wonderfully bright and comfortable place to call home on your adventure. Please remember you are booking a large TENT! :-) Come expecting a back to basics experience. While you are here you'll have the yurt completely to yourself. You’ll also have shared access to the wet sauna next to the yurt for bathing. This is a great place to stretch out and relax in the heat. When you’re ready to wash up use the heated water to have a bucket shower. Feel free to take a walk around the property and see a variety of off grid building projects underway or find your way onto old Johnson Rd. for a peaceful walk through the forest. Winter at the yurt! Our yurt is a 4 season dwelling. As a matter of fact our family of four lived in it year round for 6 years starting when our kids were 4 years old! There is a wood stove that keeps the yurt at comfortable temperatures and a back up propane heater that keeps the yurt cool but not frozen if you are away for extended periods and can't keep the fire going. We provide all the firewood needed to keep the fire going but heating with wood does take some effort: adjusting the damper level, stoking the fire every few hours and hauling firewood from the wood shed. In order to wake up to warm temperatures a very early morning (1-2 hours before you wake) fire stoking is necessary, otherwise if you prefer to sleep you can expect to wake up to a cool space that will take 30-45 minutes to heat up once the fire is raging again. We found that when temperatures were above -15°C (which is the norm here in Golden) keeping it cozy and warm is easy. When temperatures dip below -20°C it takes more monitoring of the fire. It's an adventure and not for the faint of heart. If you come prepared for the unusual and rustic we are confident you will enjoy your winter time here! Other things worth knowing: As mentioned in the listing the Yurt is off grid, basic and rustic. Therefore it is a little bit unusual in the way it works and what it has to offer. Some things worth mentioning are: 1) We do NOT offer Wi-fi. We do get decent cell reception on most cellular networks but some guests do find their connection spotty or lacking with certain carriers. 2) We have limited power as it is powered completely by solar. There is plenty of power for all the lights in the yurt as well as charging phones, tablets and anything that charges via USB. There is no regular household power for larger electronics or beauty products like hair dryers or curling irons. 3) We do NOT have hot showers or hot running water. You will have shared access to the wood fired, wet sauna beside the yurt. It can be used for bathing. This is a great place to stretch out and relax in the heat. When you’re ready to wash up use the heated water from the stove to have a bucket shower. Also, our family and workers live on the property that surrounds the yurt so there is some traffic and people moving about. We always do our very best to be respectful of our guests privacy but, if you’re looking for a completely isolated experience we can’t offer that. Lastly, we are open to having pets stay at the yurt with you. They need to approved by us and while you’re here we expect the pets to be kept off the furniture and they are not welcome to sleep on/in a bed. If you feel that your pet can meet these expectations please let us know. We charge an additional $30 cleaning fee for the first animal and $10 for any other approved animals after the first to cover the extra work and wear and tear that comes with having animals in the yurt. It will be added to the reservation after the initial booking.

Super great open space. Lots of sleeping spots, comfy bed. Worst part were the mosquitos so the Yurt was a nice place to hideout from the mosquitos.

Beautiful secluded location. The yurt was amazing with a lot of room. We didn’t see or meet the hosts but the neighbor was nice

We loved the yurt! It’s in a brilliant location and the yurt had everything we needed. Jair was lovely, even showed us around some of his projects! Had a great time and would definitely recommend staying here.

We enjoyed it
We enjoyed our stay. The yurt is spacious. The beds are comfortable. Tap water (cold only) and a warm washroom are definitely nice to have. There is a sauna just next door but we didn't use it. A great firewood supply. Dogs are allowed, for an extra fee. We heard people nearby but didn't see anybody (except the owner who helped our friend to start the fire) so we felt a sort of privacy. Jair responded to all our texts and addressed all our questions and requests. Everything worked well and the fire kept the yurt warm. We had a very relaxing weekend. No regrets and I would recommend it to anybody looking for an interesting or unique experience.

A very fun experience. Using the compost toilet and wood stove-heated shower were unique experiences I couldn’t get anywhere else.
