The Turkey Hollow Campground

6 sites · RVs, Tents40 acres · Millersburg, OH
Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 8 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels. We now just added a in the trees, warm water rinse off area.

McKee Farm - Treehouses and Camping

16 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents230 acres · Frazeysburg, OH
McKee Farm is rich in memories and rich in history. It has been in the family for over 150 years and we were told that it was one of stopping points for the underground railroad. The 240 acre farm boasts a hidden cave, wide open fields, breathtaking forest land, and historic and rustic barns. Nestled at the edge of a wooded creek, Tullihas in the Trees treehouse boasts a beautiful sunset view with rolling hills. Tullihas combines comfort with the thrill of being immersed in nature. Built using recycled electric poles, Tullihas in the Trees has a deck perfect for hammocking, an interior dressed with windows so that guests can feel as if they are living amongst the trees, and two small lofts ideal for a restful night's sleep. Oxley in the Woods is our newest treehouse cabin. Nestled in the woods with a view of the sunset, the lovely A Frame is filled with lovely woodwork, vintage parquet flooring, and private wooded views. The deck is huge! We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy. The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone. In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

Three Acre Wood

3 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents3 acres · Newark, OH
- Gentle hillside with a 25' x 15' level, graveled space for a camper or RV. This space overlooks the gentle sloping hillside into the woods. - FIRE RING, comfy chairs, large picnic table and a new tall toilet tent. You are welcome to any of the plentiful fallen wood on my 3 acres for your fire. There is plenty of open easy access and safe places to park your vehicles and/or trailers with kayaks/canoes. Feel free to walk through my woods, boundaries are well marked with yellow chain out of respect for my country neighbors. - This is a new adventure for me as a host. I am a newly retired nurse. I can promise you will not be disappointed! - The site is close to my pole barn where you can connect to a 100 ' heavy-duty weatherproof power cord. - Nearby is a propane powered generator which kicks on in the event of any outage and supplies both my barn and cabin. It also cycles every Monday for a bit during the day.... Nice to have out here in the woods! - I have a hot/ cold outdoor shower beneath the 40-foot deck of my cabin that you're welcome to use! Privacy ensured with curtains and the fact that no one could see you anyway! - You can use water from my outdoor faucet via long hose. Delicious well water from "The Dragon" that is 200' deep. - Pets are very welcome! I have four rescue dogs, three littles which are confined to a fenced dog park attached to my cabin. I just ask that you be a good dog parent and clean up any poopies. There are so many nearby attractions anywhere from 2 to 10 miles away. Great curvy, hilly country roads! Look out for deer as they are active all the time, lots of cattle and horses to see. Super clean countryside. Google these sites for SO many places to see/things to do: *BLACKHAND GORGE State Nature Preserve and Natural Area (1.8 miles from my Three Acre Wood) -free, long paved path along the Licking River, safe and clean. restrooms at entrance. *Flint Ridge State Memorial (7 miles away) -free, called the "Great Indian Quarry of Ohio" *Dillon State Park/Lake/Dam (less than 10 miles away) -free entrance Picnic tables, playground, tennis courts, "Story Book Lane", Free launch area into Dillon Lake for watercraft, fishing, beaches, heavily wooded shoreline. Shallow/clean. Paved road. *Boyce - Licking River Access (1.8 miles) -free, lots of room for parking/can put in kayaks/canoes or other inflatables. Lots of gravely clean beach to play on when the water is low. There are country neighbors both police and fire who have very safe outdoor firing ranges so hearing gunfire sometimes is not a cause for alarm, just part of living in the woods! I have the best neighbors ever. We all look out for one another. I will gladly greet you upon arrival, answer any questions then give you the country privacy but be available via text.

The land.

We've got plenty of paths going around the property if you'd like to walk around in a somewhat dense forest. Sometimes a blacksmith is working you may catch a show but there's metal, stone, and wood art to buy all the time. The spots you'll most likely be camping are well-maintained riverside spots or if you're up for a hike there are caves where you can camp in somewhat untouched wilderness besides some logging trails and old campsites from others.

The best camping near Salt Fork State Park guide

Overview

About

Forested valleys and wildflower meadows tumble down to the lakeside in Salt Fork State Park. Bring your boat to cruise around Salt Fork Lake, paddle around the northern bays in a kayak or canoe, or try your luck fishing for bass and crappie, then cool off at the swimming beach. Away from the water, there are more than 17,000 acres to hike, horseback ride, or cross-country ski, along with an 18-hole golf course. Salt Fork Campground has plenty of space for RVs—alternatively, escape the crowds at the tent-only primitive sites or check into the Salt Fork Lodge.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve one of 212 campsites (including electric and full hookup sites, primitive sites, and equestrian sites) via the Reserve Ohio website.
  2. Campsite reservations open from 7am, six months in advance, and all sites can be reserved online.
  3. Campsites can book up fast, so reserve as early as possible, especially if visiting during peak season or on holiday weekends.

When to go

Outdoor adventures await year-round in Salt Fork State Park. Visit in spring and summer to admire the wildflowers, in fall to see the autumn foliage, or brave the cold to hit the snowmobile trails or go ice fishing in winter. The state campground is open through winter, but primitive campsites can only be booked from April through October—the rest of the year, it’s first-come, first-served.
