With the Thorny Devil Brewery right next door, you can stroll over for a beer-tasting paddle and a smoked meat platter before heading back to unwind under the stars.
By day, explore the nearby Thrombolites, a natural wonder just a short 5-minute walk away, or take an early morning stroll to the Secret Giant, a hidden gem nestled in the landscape. You'll often wake to the sound of parrots and kookaburras, with other native wildlife making their presence known throughout the day. There are plenty of rabbits to spot, and if you’re lucky, kangaroos and emus might pass through.
The campsites offer stunning views of the vines, and are set within the trees for a secluded and tranquil experience.
At this stage, the road is a little uneven, so we recommend a 4WD for access. Once you’re here, you can kick back, take an afternoon nap under the trees, and enjoy the peaceful charm of this one-of-a-kind escape.
For supplies, there’s a convenience store just down the road, and if you’re after a beach day or need more amenities, Falcon is only a 15-minute drive away. Perth is just 1 hour and 20 minutes from the campsite, making this the perfect weekend getaway.
Whether you're here for a weekend of relaxation, a brewery visit, or a base to explore the region, Salt & Ember is the original escape—peaceful, scenic, and full of charm.
NOTE: A residential property is located at the far end of the acreage. Please respect the privacy of the homeowners by avoiding the area near the shed & house. Your campsites are situated several acres away, ensuring both your privacy and theirs.

We booked both sites at Paperbark Retreat for 5 caravans over New Year.
Lots of room and flat areas to park up the vans and not be on top each other with shaded areas to sit under.
Great location to just chill out with friends only just over an hour from Perth.
Will definitely be back!

Highly recommended. Have just finished my third stay. Enjoy the scenery, quiet and location. Great hosts and amenities, such as the fire pit table and container which you can use as a kitchen. Close enough to Perth for a quick getaway. Will be back again.

Had an awesome time at black stump site. Very private, plenty of space to choose from for pitching a large tent. Having the container nearby was a plus as used that for the camp kitchen. You can easily set up chairs in there should it rain and there’s two square tables in there for your use. The site was peaceful and beautiful and the hosts wonderful and very helpful. Michael brought over a fire pit table for us to use and some wood to start our fires off with. Will definitely be returning!

The Black Stump was a great place to stay. The paddock has quite a few spots to pitch a tent. There is a shipping container with tables and chairs that can be used as a make shift kitchen. Overall, our stay was relaxed and the host was lovely. It's close to a short bush walk at the lime kiln, and not too far away from the thrombolites. Would recommend.

A small and basic site, but really charming with lovely shady trees. Our second night felt much more private once other guests had left, though it can be quite open when busy. There are some beautiful walks nearby, and the evenings were wonderfully quiet with stunning starry skies. It was a bit dusty with a few caterpillars around, but we appreciated that there were no nasty spiders and the site was well-cleared to help prevent snakes. A peaceful and pleasant stay overall 🏕️

Nice peaceful location to camp under the trees. All the campsites are in sight of each other but enough distance that everyone had their own space. The brewery next door was only open between 10am - 3pm so it was quiet at night and was a lovely spot for a beer and some lunch. Great communication from Jessie, with very clear directions, and each site is clearly marked. Would recommend.

Salt & Ember, was a wonderful stay for us.
We got to watch a possum climb up a tree two foot in front of us. Also star gazing is a must.
Located next to the Thorny Devil brewery (check opening hours).
Just a short walk further down the road are the Thrombolites. Where we enjoyed sitting on the jetty for a front row view of the sunsetting over the water.
A 20 minute walk on the trail hidden in the bushes you’ll come face to face with one of the famous wooden giants.
Was just what we needed for a quick one night stay.
