Very private valley nestled between two mountainous sandstone ranges. 3.5 kilometers from Colebrook, via Yarlington road. The property in total size is 37 hectares half of which is gently undulating grassland slopes. These slopes lead to the banks of the beautiful Iles Creek which runs nearly all year round. The western range across the creek includes numerous caves within comfortable walking distance. The highest cave provides magnificent views to the East coast. Camping options include non-designated sites either side of the creek under the huge black-wood trees, restricted to 4-wheel drive vehicles during winter and spring months, with a secluded site with year-round access for all vehicles. At the entrance sits the first of the designated sites, the rest are accessed via the meandering road down 300 or so meters to the camping ground entrance for the other two sites. The last 500-700 meters of Yarlington road leading to the entrance is quite steep. Some two wheel drive vehicles towing large vans have found this challenging, while others haven't. The two main camping areas now have a 'bush loo' in each site. if you wish to use these please use your own paper. Also, now for camper convenience the whole area has access to the campers' lounge and resource shelter. It contains First Aid and snake bite first aid kits. Water is available here. For the rest of the description, please see below Deep Glen is a beautiful, quiet 5 acre property at Eaglehawk Neck, gateway to the stunning Tasman Peninsula. Hiking, surfing, fishing, swimming, diving are all at your doorstep, not to mention the famous Three Capes Track and the Port Arthur Historic site just a short drive away. If you want to see the coast shown in these photos, both the Tasman Island Cruise and Wild Ocean Tasmania offer excellent trips Bookings are for two adults; children under 16 are free. It may be possible for larger groups to occupy one site - please enquire before booking. As the site is teeming with wildlife including the barred bandicoot, we don't allow dogs. There are no facilities on the block apart from a long drop dunny (byo paper) and a small supply of non-potable water so you will need to be self-sufficient though there are good meals at the nearby Lufra Hotel and excellent coffee just up the road at the legendary Cubed Coffee van. Very private valley nestled between two mountainous sandstone ranges. 3.5 kilometers from Colebrook, via Yarlington road. The property in total size is 37 hectares half of which is gently undulating grassland slopes. These slopes lead to the banks of the beautiful Iles Creek which runs nearly all year round. The western range across the creek includes numerous caves within comfortable walking distance. The highest cave provides magnificent views to the East coast. Camping options include non-designated sites either side of the creek under the huge black-wood trees, restricted to 4-wheel drive vehicles during winter and spring months, with a secluded site with year-round access for all vehicles. At the entrance sits the first of the designated sites, the rest are accessed via the meandering road down 300 or so meters to the camping ground entrance for the other two sites. The last 500-700 meters of Yarlington road leading to the entrance is quite steep. Some two wheel drive vehicles towing large vans have found this challenging, while others haven't. The two main camping areas now have a 'bush loo' in each site. if you wish to use these please use your own paper. Also, now for camper convenience the whole area has access to the campers' lounge and resource shelter. It contains First Aid and snake bite first aid kits. Water is available here. There are no facilities on the block apart from a long drop dunny (byo paper) and a small supply of non-potable water so you will need to be self-sufficient though there are good meals at the nearby Lufra Hotel and excellent coffee just up the road at the legendary Cubed Coffee van. We had a lovely stay at Kathryn and Alex’s place. Their berry farm is immaculate, a true credit to them both. The site we stayed at was so private and quiet. It was very generous, with a beautiful hand sawn picnic table and fire pit with seating. The visiting pademelons kept us entertained and the beautiful fresh water stream sent us off into a deep sleep each night.

From the moment we arrived at the Woodley property in Adventure Bay, we felt welcome. We were greeted by a beautiful, peaceful setting and two genuinely warm hosts — Alex and Kathyrn. The property is perfectly located just a short walk from the beach, yet feels wonderfully secluded, surrounded by native bushland. Woodley is clearly a labour of love. The berry and fruit orchards are stunning and carefully maintained, with Kathyrn, Alex and their father Lee regularly working around the property. We loved that they generously shared some of the harvest with guests, which added a personal and memorable touch to our stay. There are two excellent campsites, both very flat, well protected from the elements, and thoughtfully spaced so campers can enjoy privacy and quiet. Firewood is available to purchase, and the fireplace and table made evenings around the fire easy and comfortable. Alex and Kathyrn were gracious and attentive hosts, offering local knowledge, stories, and a genuine sense of care without ever being intrusive. The campsite is close to everything — you can walk into Adventure Bay for a coffee, and it’s only a short drive to beaches, walks, and local attractions. We spent a full week here with the family and couldn’t have been more comfortable. The peaceful atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, and easy access to the beach made it an ideal place to slow down and reconnect with nature. 5 nights at Ladychapel Camp Grounds
Nigel was so accommodating, observant of weather and assisted with water and local advice. Sites were very well separated from each other unlike other hipcamps on the island. Great proximity to everything Bruny. Water avail, doggo friendly, we spent 8 nights and could easy have stayed for months. Weather was terrible and awesome so we experienced the site in both. In very wet conditions, express concern if you’re uncomfortable with drive and Nigel will find you a suitable site. All round excellent

Maree and Andrew's caravan was a perfect fit for what I needed. A comfy bed, lounge seating, small kitchen and a beautiful property. Secluded enough but within walking distance of the Maydena centre. They were also great to chat to and very accommodating of anything I needed. Highly recommended!

We had a great New Year’s Eve camping on Kathryn and Alex’s property. We had an incredible secluded spot on the amazing Adventure Bay and Kathryn and Alex were both very accommodating and helpful! Highly recommend.

A beautiful private spot, ringed by trees and a creek, opposite stunning Adventure Bay, and with a berry and fruit orchard to wander in, this lovely site is well worth the wait for the ferry to Bruny. One of the best hipcamps we have stayed in. Kathryn and Alex and the dogs were friendly and welcoming and Kathryn very kindly gave us some homemade berry jam. Highly recommend Watering Place at Woodleigh. Thanks again

Absolutely loved our stay. So central to everywhere we wanted to visit. The property itself is stunning, wide green areas to camp and Nigel was a very engaging host. Where to go

Tasman Peninsula

Cliffs, beaches, and sandy bays carve out the Tasman Peninsula landscape, just an hour’s drive southeast of Hobart. This is the place to escape city life—simple unpowered sites let you get even closer to bushwalking trails and remote beaches, and it’s even possible to camp right by the Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Tasmania’s top spots.

Wellington to Mount Field National Park

Looming on the horizon to the west, the mist-capped peak of Mount Wellington stands watch over Hobart and provides terrain for hikers, mountain bikers, and campers, just minutes from the CBD. A further 2-hour drive brings you to the mountains and waterfalls of Mount Field National Park, where riverfront camping areas offer access to hiking trails and fishing spots, and self-sufficient campers can escape to secluded bush campsites.

South Coast and Bruny Island

Coastal walks wind around the waterfront south of Hobart, where road-trippers can stop off at seafront towns such as Dover and Southport. Ferries to Bruny Island leave from Kettering, where you can spot seabirds as you cruise the coast, tuck into fresh-from-the-ocean oysters, and pitch a tent by remote beaches and bushlands.

When to go

The most popular time for camping and outdoor activities around Hobart is summer (December through February), when camping grounds book up quickly. Spring and autumn are also ideal for camping—head to the national parks around Hobart to hike against a backdrop of spring wildflowers or witness the ‘Turning of the Fagus’ (Tasmania’s fall foliage). Touring by caravan or campervan is preferable in winter (June through August), when rainy days and chilly nights are common.

Know before you go

  • Tassie weather is notoriously changeable, so pack for all anything, even in summer.
  • A National Parks pass is required to visit, hike, or camp within Tasmania’s national parks. 
  • Fire bans are common in Tasmania during summer and dry periods, so be sure to check local recommendations before lighting your campfire.
  • Possums and Tasmanian devils are common around Hobart—always secure your food and anything else that might attract wildlife. 
  • Having your own car is a big plus around Hobart, as public transport is limited to the national parks and beaches.
