A maritime hub with coastal hikes, squid fishing, and wreck dives.
Once one of South Australia’s most important “windjammer” ports, Port Victoria still wears its maritime heritage on its sleeve. Get a taste of its shipping heyday as you stroll the 19th-century jetty and visit the maritime museum, then cruise out to Wardang Island, where scuba divers can explore eight different shipwrecks. Bring your fishing tackle, as the island is also a popular spot for snapper fishing, and Port Victoria jetty is teeming with squid and snook at night. Campers have a few options in Port Victoria, including a caravan park with powered sites and cabin rentals available, and a spacious campground by the Oval. Alternatively, you’ll find beach campgrounds dotted along the west coast of the Yorke Peninsula, affording easy access to the “Walk the Yorke” hiking and cycling trails and the wild beaches and sea cliffs of Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park.
