Mountains, wetlands, and wildlife-filled bushlands surround this highway pitstop.
Located along the Dukes Highway (A8), about a third of the way between Adelaide and Melbourne, the small town of Keith sees its fair share of roadtrippers. Keith camping is ideal for those needing a stopover—check into a caravan park with grass and gravel powered sites, a dump point, and laundry facilities, or camp at the showground, which has picnic areas and toilets. From here, the Riddoch Highway splits off south to Mount Gambier and the Limestone Coast, while an hour’s drive west takes you to the secluded beaches and bird-filled wetlands of Coorong National Park. While Keith itself is rarely the final destination, the lively agricultural hub still has a few attractions to check out while you’re in town. A hike to the top of Mount Monster is a local favorite, while the vast Ngarkat Conservation Park has great bushwalking, mountain biking, and 4WD trails.
