Hit this road trip pit stop at the frontier of Queensland and New South Wales.
For a taste of rural Queensland without venturing too far from the coast, the riverside border town of Goondiwindi is a welcome pitstop for road-trippers. Right on the border of Queensland and New South Wales, Goondiwindi is encircled by state forests, national parks, lakes, and floodplains, making it a prime destination for bird-watchers, bushwalkers, and paddlers. Campers can take their pick of the town’s caravan park, tourist park, and holiday park, all of which provide powered sites, space for larger motorhomes and caravans, and amenities such as a camp kitchen, laundry facilities, and BBQs. Alternatively, head out to camp by the shores of nearby Lake Coolmunda, go hiking in the Whetstone or Bringalily forests, or cross over to NSW to discover the wetlands of the Gwydir Valley.
