Travellers Village Rest

2 sites · RVs, Tents2 acres · Bowning, NSW
Stay on our 2 acre block on the edge of a small village in the southern tablelands of NSW. We are conveniently close to the Hume Highway, with a level grassed site with scattered gum trees providing shade. Travellers between Melbourne and Sydney can easily pull in off the highway for a quick set up for the night, then be back on the road the next morning. Alternatively, our site is an excellent base to stay for a few days while you explore Canberra and surrounds, as it is an hour to the Nation’s capital. Sure, we can hear the highway and occasional trains as they go past on the main line but there are also plenty of bird calls and some neighbouring wallabies. There is a small creek on the boundary of the camping block that attracts birds but is not suitable for swimming. We have town water available for campers and toilet facilities are a short 400m walk to the middle of the village. The nearest dump point is 15 minutes away in the town of Yass. Winters are excellent for small fires for cooking and then putting another log on to enjoy the rest of the evening under the stars. We have dedicated fire pits or you can use your own. As an added bonus, there are metal sculptures dotted around the block created by the host. Each site is spacious enough for up to 4 vans if you are travelling in a group. It is easy to navigate through the trees and use it as a drive through.

Retreat Shearers' Quarters

1 site · RV, Tent1700 acres · Junee, NSW
PLEASE NOTE: Retreat is a working farm. For biosecurity reasons, we cannot host visitors who have returned from overseas within the last 10 days. Retreat is a historic sheep station and regenerative farm on Pinchgut Creek, in Wiradjuri Country, on the southwest slopes of NSW. Strategic grazing methods are fostering biodiversity (above and below ground). Creekside revegetation has brought the waterway back to life. Birdlife abounds. Take a walk along the creek, through the regenerating woodland. Pitch your tent under shady white cedar trees, beside the Retreat Shearer's Quarters. After sunset, listen for the mopoke owls, which sometimes call from the branches of ancient yellow box trees. Nights are dark here. Marvel at a sky full of stars. Occasionally, a rare Australasian bittern, nesting in the reed beds on Pinchgut Creek, will add its booming call to the night time frog chorus. Butcher birds often sing at sunrise. The towns of Cootamundra, Temora and Junee are less than half an hour away. Guests have access to two hot showers, a laundry, toilet, and drinking water (rainwater). There is access to electricity, but no rubbish facilities. We ask that you remove all of your own rubbish, as we don't have a council rubbish pickup service. Stay cozy in the evenings around the campfire. Campfires can be made in the cooler months, by permission, and only in the designated fire circle. Tents may only be set up under the old, shady white cedar trees on the western side of the long, corrugated iron dormitory building, with a view towards the creek. The campsite is 2WD accessible and there's plenty of room for motorhomes, campervans and camper trailers. The campsite is grassy and level, but the area can get boggy in wet weather. Please check in with us about the current conditions. No pets please.

Yarracoola Estate

6 sites · RVs, Tents250 acres · Taylors Flat, NSW
Yarracoola is a working sheep farm, carrying 300 to 400 merino ewes and additional lambs, depending upon the time of year. Lambing occurs during September & October. Lots of little white lambs chasing mum around. 😆 Surrounds of rolling hills and bush, our land offers peace and quiet with plenty of space. Overlooking rural paddocks, you can enjoy the tranquillity that a farming landscape has to offer. (1.5hrs from Canberra, 3.5hrs from Sydney). Camping is available next to the creek and dam on the western side. There is no power, no dump point, no phone reception and no internet. (Don't you just love that...😜) Various farming activities occur during the year which you are welcome to join in. The township of Boorowa is 15min drive, offering a range of shops, dining venues, Golf course, swimming pool (in season) and playground. There are also a number of events held throughout the year. The Woolfest and the Picnic Races being a must. https://irishwoolfest.com.au/ https://www.facebook.com/boorowapicnicraceclub https://youtu.be/1Ja7bR1EvAA Townships close by are Yass, Young, Harden, Murringo, Binalong, Rye Park, Cowra and Wyangala Dam. If you visit in spring you'll be able to see fields full of bright yellow canola as far as the eye can see.
