Get back to nature as you camp along the Goodradigbee River in the Billy Grace Reserve, or enjoy kayaking and fishing in the Swinging Bridge Reserve. Hikers might prefer the Fitzpatrick Trackhead Reserve, along the popular Hume and Hovell walking track, or Micalong Creek Reserve, which has direct access to bushwalks and a natural swimming hole. Only friendly dogs are permitted, and we reserve the right to ask you to leave if your dog is deemed unsafe or aggressive upon arrival. If you have any doubts, please message us prior to booking. Also, please ensure kids are supervised at all times, particularly around the river. Lifejackets are recommended. During your time here, visit the local farm gates in Tumut, Batlow, Tumbarumba, and Adelong for their delicious high-country produce. There are also some beautiful swimming spots and walks to discover in the region, as well as good facilities in town, including the local swimming pool and shopping centre. We are located a short drive from Tumut in the Snowy Mountains region. Pitch your tent or RV overlooking the gorgeous mountains. We are half a kilometre from the main road behind locked gates, and just 10 minutes from town for all your supply needs. There are plenty of scenic walks and fishing spots nearby, at camp you can enjoy complete privacy. There is a shower and toilet available which is separate from the main residence. There is also bar fridge, large chest freezer, jug, toaster, and microwave available, We are on tank water and can offer drinking water. We ask that you are conservative with your water use, and we encourage you to bring your own. Enjoy waking up to the tranquil sounds of wildlife of all sorts, (not having to hear any traffic being 500meters off the main road). plus the views of the kangaroos in the mornings is pleasant too! Our property is located in Tumut Plains at a nursery that specialises in African Violets. Enjoy the serene landscape with uninterrupted views of nearby hills, whilst relaxing under the shade of an Elm tree. Wander through the established gardens or relax and watch the neighbouring cattle wander through their paddocks. The house on the property is 120 years old and was once a school that has now been converted. The property also has some of the most amazing sunsets on offer. 200 acres of wild natural bushland on the Yass River. There's plenty of space for hiķing, with a long River frontage for fishing, canoeing, or fossicking. Old Chinese gold works near the site to inspect. A dam is available for swimming or catching yabbies. It is not safe to swim in the river due to flood wrack. There is plenty of wildlife particularly if you are into bird watching. Outside of the fire danger period you are welcome to build camp fires in the fireplace. Lots of native animals to see. There are 4 species of macropod, wombats, and 3 possum species. A bird watchers paradise. Bush walking. Close to cold climate wineries and horse riding. We can provide a driver for winery visits. Completely undeveloped so you will need to bring everything you need and take it away with you including toilet and waste. There is a dump site at Yass. You are welcome to collect the abundant fallen timber to burn in the fireplace when firebans are not in place. Only 4WD car access. Unsuitable for caravans. Dogs are welcome so long as they do not pass property boundaries. We have neighbours with sheep and cattle. You could also bring your horses we have trails and a small yard and attached shelter.

Set your camp up in our small Cider Apple orchard over looking the dam and our beautiful 55 acre farm. Get close up to the camels (Houdini, Sadeek and Gobi), Check out our beautiful big highland steer called Jimmy, Roger the donkey always likes a bum scratch, and see the many other animals that live here at Crafty Cider & SMART Animal Sanctuary. Kick back and listen to the quiet around you, enjoy the sounds of the birds and farm animals. "The Orchard" is a beautiful peaceful 5 minute walk down a gravel road with big trees to our Cidery where you can taste and take back to camp some of our cider or sit and have a drink while watching the animals being fed. Maybe book a tour where Tony will show you how we make our cider from the orchard to the bottle and Lorene will show you the amazing animals. You can always jump on your bike and head out on one of the many tracks in the area. You will need to be self sufficient and have your own toilet, water etc. There is no power in The Orchard. Due to people using the orchard as a toilet we are now no longer taking people tenting. You MUST be self sufficient. Head in Batlow to check out the bakery, RSL and Pub and admire the beauty of this small town. Or head upto Tumbarumba where you can visit the Winerys and Ginnery, have lunch at Coroubya wines,The Nest or one of the many cafes. Maybe take the challange of the Tumbarumba rail trail. Check out the water falls, the blowering dam and take in those beautiful mountain views.

Head in Batlow to check out the bakery, RSL and Pub and admire the beauty of this small town. Very nice spot with 3 camping areas separated by about 100 meters or so, providing a good amount of privacy. Easy access to the river, which is nice and cold even during a heat wave! River is fast moving in some places so something to consider if swimming with kids. We were there in an off road caravan with a total length of about 12 meters with the car and plenty of room to manoeuvre. Campfires were allowed but was a tad hot when we went. Was a nice little fire teepee set up for us ready to go, with kindling and a small supply of wood provided by the owner which was a nice gesture :-) Overall a great stay and will definitely be back.

This is a great little spot just off the highway for a wonderfully private overnight stay. Plenty of room for my dogs to run around and lovely and quiet and dark for a great nights sleep. It has a petrol station right nearby which was open on New Year’s Day luckily for us. Communication with the host was great and definitely go by the instructions that the owner gives you as GPS sent us the wrong way! Thanks so much for a great stay!

My partner and I had a lovely time. The surroundings are quiet, the animals you spot are so cute and the views are unmatched. The hosts were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. I’m definitely coming back!

What a beautiful riverside location! Wayne and his dogs were so friendly and welcoming and the directions and signage to the camp were clear and super easy to follow. We arrived Christmas Eve and were able to get a great riverside spot for 3 nights of tranquility with our dogs. It filled up pretty quickly with more campers on Boxing Day, but we left the next day, so it wasn't an issue for us. We will definitely be back, keeping the 'peak dates' in mind. Thanks Wayne.

We had an awesome stay by the river, was very secluded. We had a lot of rain, but even still it was an amazing camping spot. Nice big fire pit, with plenty of wood laying around. Will definitely be coming back in the future. I highly recommend this spot.

Wayne was awesome to communicate with and met us on arrival at his beautiful property. Gorgeous river and spacious campsites to choose from, nice and green despite being nearly Christmas. Local town close by for all you need. The platypus in the river remained elusive for out short one night stay. We will be back!

Where to go

Brindabella Ranges

South of Wee Jasper Valley, the Brindabella Ranges roll over the border of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The mountainous terrain of the Brindabella National Park provides plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures. Explore off-road on a network of 4WD trails, hike or mountain bike along mountain ridges, or camp out in the heart of the bush. 

Australian Capital Territory

Beyond Brindabella National Park, the Australian Capital Territory has both historical monuments and verdant parklands. Dive into Australia’s history and heritage at Canberra’s many museums, enjoy boat cruises or kayaking around Lake Burley Griffin, or explore miles of bushwalking and cycling trails right on the city’s doorstep. For overnight stays, there are plenty of camping areas in and around the capital too.

Canberra Wine Country

Rolling green hills lie to the east of Wee Jasper, where the cool-climate vineyards produce some of Australia’s finest Shiraz, Riesling, and Chardonnay wines. Murrumbateman, Gundaroo, and Yass are the main stops on a wine-tasting itinerary. Visit boutique wineries and cellar doors, sample local foods from artisan producers, then pitch your tent amid the vines. 

When to go

The best time for camping trips, bushwalking, and outdoor activities is from September through May, when it’s warm enough for swimming and trout fishing in the rivers. It’s busiest in summer (December through February), so book campsites and activities in advance. Mild temperatures mean that camping is possible year-round, and the reserves stay open through winter. 

Know before you go

  • You will need your own transport to reach the Wee Jasper Reserves; there is no public transport. Campsites are all located along sealed roads, but other attractions in the region may require a 4WD.
  • Camping in the Wee Jasper Reserves must be booked in advance.
  • Campsites in the Wee Jasper Reserves have restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and barbecues, but there are no powered sites, and cell phone and 4G reception is also limited. The Billy Grace Reserve is the main center for campers with potable water, an RV dump point, a rubbish compound, and a small shop selling essentials.
  • There is no gas station in Wee Jasper—the closest is in Yass, about a 1-hour drive away. This is also the place to stock up on camping supplies and groceries.
