"Duck Downs" Snowy Mountains

6 sites · RVs, Tents150 acres · Dalgety, NSW
Rolling hills, Quite still. Few trees, Much to see. Many granite rocks, Like sheep in flocks. Natural sounds, At ‘Duck Downs’. T.J Wilson We have 3 remote sites and 3 dispersed sites and the property is six kilometers from Dalgety township which is situated on the “Snowy River” NSW. We are located 30 minutes drive south east of Jindabyne and 40 minutes drive south west of Cooma. There is a flush toilet and fresh drinking water is available at our dispersed sites. Caravans can easily be filled up via garden hose and if you are staying on one of the remote sites this can be done easily prior to settling in. We have a mowed loop track giving easy access from each site to stroll to the top of the hill, walk the dog or enjoy the 360 degree views. Take a picnic in the evening or just a glass of wine and watch the sunset from the top of the hill. After dark, relax and toast some marshmallows over the fire pit and discuss what you are going to do the next day. The land was originally once a part of "Marranumbla Homestead". I have called it home since 1995 and now share it with my partner Phillip, our son, Danish the Whippet, Murphy the Malshi, Myonie the Moodle and Finley the cat. The house yard only had 2 trees when I bought it and the house built originally in 1980 still needed completing on the inside. I have worked hard to create an extensive garden in a sometimes harsh environment. It's our peaceful part of the "Snowy Monaro", the property being 155 acres in total. A great place to wander and breath in the fresh air. In Dalgety township you can have a meal and catch up with a local at the "Buckley's Crossing Hotel" or take a walk around the show ground, town and along the river reserve where you can have a swim and relax on the riverbank and view the historic Dalgety Bridge circa 1888 across the Snowy River. Then come back in the evening to look for platypus when they come out to play. Visit the local 'Snowy Vineyard and Microbrewery' incorporating the 'Dalgety Brewing Company' situated approximately 10km north of the town on the Snowy River or have lunch at 'Tuscany in Dalgety' 2km to the west of town. Take a trip to Jindabyne which is half an hours drive to the west, walk round the lake, visit the 'Jindabyne Brewery', great food, beer, cider and wine or the many other restaurants and cafes in town. Spend some time at the 'Snowy Region Visitor Centre' and the 'Gaden Trout Hatchery' or catch your own trout in the lake or at the 'Eucumbene Trout Farm'. Travel beyond into the mountains and Kosciusko National Park to Thredbo, Perisher Valley and Charlottes Pass. Explore the many walks in the national park including the walk to the top of Mt Kosciusko. Visit the 'Wild Brumby Distillery' enjoy some European fare and locally crafted Schnapps, Gin, Vodka or Gluhwein. Take a day trip through Adaminaby to 'Yarrangobilly Caves and Thermal Pool' in the northern end of Kosciusko National Park, picnic, swim and tour the caves. Visit the "Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and Café in Cooma and learn the history of the scheme. The Centre houses a comprehensive exhibition hall including an extensive photographic collection, models, hands-on exhibits and a one of a kind immersive theatre. You will find information about the Scheme such as engineering, the environment, the National Electricity Market, history, water management and power generation. Make it your base camp while enjoying all that the winter season has to offer and lets not forget the skiing and snow boarding of course. Well that's just a sample of some of the things you can do but if all that sounds like too much, just put your feet up and have a rest at your campsite!! P.S. The annual Dalgety Show is held on the first Sunday in March every year and did you know that Dalgety was one of the sites considered for our country's capital. Telstra 4G coverage on the property, limited Optus coverage.

320 acres for you to explore! This farm is home to 50 cows, their calves, and a bunch of wildlife! Watch the calves running around, explore the bush tracks, sit by the creek, fish and enjoy the serenity! With 4 private campsites bordering the creek Aroona Park can cater to almost any size party; whether you’re camping solo, a couple on a bush getaway or a group looking for lots of space to spread out, our sites are perfectly positioned to ensure you feel like you’re all alone! We are happy to point you toward the best places to see deer feeding and wallowing, fox cubs playing and platypus swimming. FARM: This is a functioning farm; there are cows and calves most of the year. Our cows are very friendly and curious, and whilst we endeavour to keep them away from the campsite, sometimes they can't help themselves! EXPLORING: Our property joins onto State Forest, which can be explored at guests own risk, once you set foot off our property, Hipcamp no longer insures against injury etc. Within our property, we have bush tracks, animal trails and a trickling stream running through a beautiful, shallow gorge, where many adventures have been had! WATER PLAY: Our sites make the most of the creek flowing through the property; Creek Ford and Shady Shallows have the best water access and are especially great for kids. Please be mindful of children around water, an adult must be present at all times. CAMPFIRES: Who doesn't love a good campfire?! We have numerous fire pits at the campsites that are there to be used. No chainsaws are to be used on the property, as per Hipcamps insurance policy. There is plenty of wood around that you are welcome to collect yourselves, otherwise, we can supply loads of wood for $50 (enough for a campfire over a long weekend). SETTING UP CAMP: Please be mindful of where you choose to set up your camp. While we endeavour to keep the sites as safe as possible, some hazards include; trees and limbs falling, snakes and thistles. TRACK CONDITION The track to the campsite is bumpy and needs to be driven slowly, we have had a 22ft caravan towed by a 100 series set up here with no troubles. FIREARMS: as per Hipcamps insurance policy, no firearms are to be used on the property. We understand that State Forest attracts hunting, which we are all for, however, we ask you to respect our wishes and keep all firearms legally stored while you are on our property. Do speak to us for some local knowledge about great hunting spots! WHAT'S AROUND? BENAMBRA is a small, remote farming community 15 minutes from the property. There you will find a post office and general store, a small playground, public toilets and a great pub open for beautiful meals and cold beers Tues-Sun nights! OMEO is about 30 minutes from the property, where there is a state-of-the-art pump track, brand new mountain bike trails, two pubs, a bakery, plenty of cafes/eateries, Foodworks, hardware supplies and a camping and fishing shop. Speak to us about local attractions and things to do in this historic area!

Harros Hill, Jindabyne

10 sites · RVs, Tents40 acres · Jindabyne, NSW
We have 40 beautiful acres on The Snowy River Way in Jindabyne with several large, private sites on offer. Our property is on a beautiful hill with a dam midway up if you’re looking for a nice walk. Do a loop around the property for spectacular views. The sites at the bottom of the property closest to the road have easy access and more protection in windy weather, but if you have a 4WD and are wanting to sit and enjoy the 360 degree rural views then head up the hill. All of the sites are large and private from one another and from our house and neighbours. Groups are welcome to have their own spot together and each site has a fire pit in place. We can supply firewood, kindling and fire starters for a small fee or you can BYO. Strictly no foraging for wood from the property please. There’s also no power hookups, taps or toilets.... so it's fully self-sufficient camping. We are only 10 minutes from Lake Jindabyne – turn left to head up to the mountains (a further 30 minutes to Thredbo or Perisher) or right to explore Jindabyne township and its boutiques, breweries, cafes and cinema. Two Creeks Meet

3 sites · RVs, Tents111 acres · Wulgulmerang East, VIC
*Due to the weather situation in the area the creek flows are sporadic. However, the several waterholes on the creeks do maintain water. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns* Our little piece of paradise is nestled quietly in a valley in Wulgulmerang East in East Gippsland. With 111 acres of primarily untouched native bushland to explore, we know this land needs to be shared to appreciate the beauty. With two creeks meeting and Goodwin Gorge on the property there are plenty of natural delights to enjoy. Approximately 2kms down the road is the convergence of the mighty Alpine and Snowy National Parks. Here you will find Little River Falls and Little River Gorge which are only minutes away from the property. Little River Gorge is Victoria's deepest Gorge and home to the one of the last colonies of the critically endangered Black Footed Rock Wallaby. The Wulgulmerang Creek that runs through the property, empties into the gorge in a stunning cascade, after rain. We are a dog friendly property but as we share this land with a myriad of wildlife we ask that appropriate respect is considered. McKillops Bridge is approx 20kms away. McKillops Road is considered amongst the 10 most scenic drives in Australia, with jaw dropping scenery along the way. Alternately take the scenic drive to Jindabyne along the Barry Way approximately 2 1/2 hours away. The property is remote with the nearest township of Buchan 40 minutes away. We will endeavour to have basic emergency supplies available at the homestead. There is no mobile coverage at the campsites, giving you the opportunity to disconnect from your electronics and enjoy nature. There is access to the Wifi at the homestead if you do need to make calls.

Creal's Rest

1 site · RV, Tent10 acres · Mannus, NSW
Our story starts in Far North Queensland, when a german backpacker, me :), met an aussie fisherman, Craig. To cut the long story short, after several years of distant relationship and living together in Germany we decided to move back to Australia. We had a vision, trying to find our perfect place to live. Starting out with a car, a camper trailer and two bags we travelled from North Queensland down to Tasmania. Looking for a place to live. On our way through Tumbarumba everything started to unfold and we fell in love with our property. The feel, the experience and the climate. This was it! We've found our perfect place and finally named it "Creal's Rest" which has two meanings for us. Obviously from our name, but also from "creel" which is a wicker basket usually used for carrying fish. We are passionate about living simply, being natural and feeling at home. Building a natural and non toxic straw bale home has set us on our path of living naturally. Nature provides us with the Best and by choosing natural and quality before quantity we look after ourselves and Mother Earth. Simply Natural Home represents our lifestyle. Therefore we love to invite you to enjoy the beautiful campsite with its amazing energy for body, mind and soul. Talk to us, if you like to know more. We are happy to chat and are looking forward to have you as a hipcamper! Love, Tatjana & Craig

Camping near Thredbo with snow sports guide

Overview

Found in the heart of Kosciuszko National Park, Thredbo provides seasonal sports year-round. The park falls within the Snowy Mountains Region, bringing some of Australia’s best skiing and snowboarding to the Thredbo-Perisher area. Cruise the fresh-packed flurries in winter and try rock climbing and abseiling in summer. Dive deep underground into the Yarrangobilly area’s cave system and get cosy in the natural thermal pool. The Lower Snowy River area produces more fun with whitewater-rafting tours and thrilling mountain-biking trails. Campers will find an abundance of accommodations to spoil them throughout Thredbo, from historic rental houses and heated lodges filled with creature comforts to remote campgrounds with picturesque views.

Where to go

Thredbo-Perisher area

This area has three mountain resorts: Thredbo, Perisher, and Charlotte Pass. Skiing, snowshoeing, and ice climbing take over in winter, and alpine hikes, mountain biking, and historic sightseeing reign supreme in spring, summer, and fall. Stay in a luxurious lodge featuring an indoor fireplace, TVs, a fully equipped kitchen, fresh bed linens, and views of Lake Jindabyne. Or opt for a charming cottage with full bathrooms, outdoor furniture to lounge on, and AC to keep cool on hot days. Tent campers and caravanners can also find multiple campgrounds offering toilets, picnic tables, and BBQ facilities.

Yarrangobilly area

The biggest highlight of this area is Yarrangobilly Caves—six lofty limestone caverns that make an unforgettable experience, whether viewed on a guided tour or explored solo. Come back above ground and warm up with a dip in the natural thermal pool. Anglers can easily drop in a line when staying in riverside campgrounds with picnic tables, BBQs, and toilets. They welcome swags, tents, camper trailers, and caravans. Or rent a guest room in a heritage home with electricity, a kitchen, full bathroom, and a lengthy porch for sipping coffee.

Lower Snowy River area

Get wet and wild on a whitewater-rafting adventure, conquer a cross-country mountain-bike tour, or head to scenic lookouts with valley views when visiting the Snowy River area. Several campgrounds are on-site and have pitches for swags, tents, and camper trailers, but bigger motorhomes need to find accommodation elsewhere. Standard amenities like picnic tables, BBQ areas, and toilets are common, but more remote campgrounds have rugged settings. Keep an eye out for wallabies, ‘roos, and emus that wander around throughout the day.

When to go

July and August have the best snowpack in Thredbo. When spring arrives in November, colourful wildflowers and fresh foliage transform the snowy landscape. Combined with slightly cooler temperatures, it’s a great season for hiking, biking, and sightseeing. The hotter summer weather makes that a prime time for getting soaked from head to toe on a whitewater-rafting tour or lounging on a lilo in the Snowy River. As autumn approaches and the temperatures cool off again, anglers can cast rods for the last time before the cold sets in.
