Anthony Chabot Family Campground

Anthony Chabot Regional Park has 70 miles of hiking, riding and biking trails waiting to be explored. Bike around Lake Chabot with terrain varying from dusty wide trails to shady, narrow canyon trails suitable for all levels. Check out a biking map here .

The 315-acre Lake Chabot is perfect for fishing and boating year-round. Kids will love their first fishing experience here, and the family can rent different boating equipment ranging from peddle boats to spacious motor boats. Boat rentals are half off on Tuesdays to Thursdays, so go ahead and take a ride around the lake. If you’re thinking about bringing your own boat, make sure it fits the requirements first. Hour-long sightseeing tours are available on the Queen tour boat-- learn about nearby wildlife while you sit back and enjoy the tranquil scenery!

Lake Chabot is well-stocked with rainbow trout, channel catfish, bass, crappie, bluegills, and many other types of fish, but make sure you bring your California fishing license and buy a daily fishing permit. The Lake Chabot Marina Cafe sells bait and tackle while doubling as a restaurant (plenty of ice cream for when it’s hot). The sandy shores around the lake are ideal fishing spots, or you can take a kayak to the middle of the lake and try your luck there! Read fishing tips and current conditions around the Bay Area. There are dozens of different trails to explore: the wide trails around the lake are easy and shaded, while the trails on the cliffside of the lake are narrower and steeper. It’s easy to get lost in the trees with switchbacks, but the panoramic view of the lake and the Bay Area is absolutely stunning at the top. If you’re ambitious, try the 31-mile Skyline National Trail which is made of numerous smaller trails that cross the entire span of Lake Chabot, the Oakland hills in Redwood Regional Park, up to Grizzly Peak in the steep hills of Montclair, ending in Alvarado Park in Richmond. There are seven different horse staging areas located throughout Anthony Chabot Regional Park. The Chabot Stables and Skyline Ranch Equestrian Center provide horse boarding and horse riding lessons.

Lake Chabot is called a kayaker’s haven. Visitors can rent kayaks and canoes or bring their own, but a fee is required (except on the third Fridays throughout 2014!). The waters are calm and relaxing, and you should keep an eye out for wildlife as you paddle by!
