Located in the foothills of the Potomac Highlands, Buffalo Gap is a 1950s era former Mountain Kids Camp turned Retreat by a group of individuals who had a vision of creating a space where family and friends can enjoy a relaxing mountain get-away.
Situated between two mountains -- Sandy Ridge and Slane's Knob -- Buffalo Gap sits in the gap between the two.
Consequently, the 70 acre property is teaming with creeks and streams, along with a 1.5 acre spring fed lake, making it a peaceful and beautiful retreat from the daily stresses of life.
Rent a cabin, camp, have a wedding or family reunion, enjoy our lakeview café, swim, hike, kayak, canoe, and so much more.
With the nearby town of Capon Bridge just 10 minutes away and the Shenandoah Valley city of Winchester just 35 minutes, so much beauty and convenience with our riverside town and nearby bigger city for additional dining and entertainment as well as conveniences.
Cabin was nice and well equipped. We were warm and comfortable and enjoyed hot showers. Host and staff were kind, welcoming and friendly. Property was lovely with much to do. Only unfortunate incident was a group of neighboring guests arrived overnight partying loudly, playing music, talking and laughing extremely loudly outside our cabin between around 1 and 4:00 a.m., shining flashlights in our window as they passed and from their car headlights on the hill above, they left trash outside on their picnic table overnight; we reported to staff the next morning who promised they would be dealt with as this behavior is not tolerated and that we should have called to report it in the night but admittedly we were a little nervous to do so as 2 grandmas with 2 very young children with us.
Overall we would definitely return to this site and now better understand how to deal with rude neighbors breaking the quiet time rules. So don't hesitate to stay here but please follow the rules and be considerate of others! It's normally a very lovely and peaceful place! 👍🏻
Great spot to camp! Friendly staff. Safe and clean area. Beautiful area, love the creeks throughout the property. We had plenty of space. Highly recommend!
My wife and I came here for our mini honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect: peaceful, gorgeous, and clean. The views were stunning and the night sky was gorgeous! We definitely hope to make this a regular campground in the future!
Grounds were maintained very well. There are lots of cool areas around the retreat to explore. Staff was incredibly friendly and the food we had at the cafe was great. This is a neat place, we’ll be back!
Just not my type of campground. Not as I guess the pictures showed.
