Waddington's Leishman Point

Leishman point is owned by the Town of Waddington and was created during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Dredge spoils were transported and placed creating a tract of land that rises 50 feet above the river and surrounding lands. The New York Power Authority acquired the property from the Leishman's who owned and operated a farm on the surrounding lands. In 2000, the New York Power Authority deemed the property surplus and conveyed it to the Town of Waddington. This Hip-Camp endeavor is hopefully our first step in creating a fully functional RV Park and campsite for everyone to enjoy. Visit the Town of Waddington Museum at the Old Town Hall for more information on the construction of the the St. Lawrence Seaway and how it transformed Waddington. There is a pavilion, campfire circle with benches, stone labyrinth, and a 16 foot vintage camper painted outside to represent a chicken coop. If you stand anywhere in this park, you'll see water. Half of the campsites are directly on the waterfront, either Goose Bay or the St. Lawrence River. You may be in New York, but across the river sits Canada (eh).

Bring a boat to explore the 1700 islands in the immediate area. Some of the islands are parks unto themselves. If you're lucky, you might see wildlife sipping some water in the bay or the river.

The swimming beach is perfect for hot summer days. If you want to stay dry, there's a volleyball court and a picnic area. This relatively small peninsula means you're never very far away from your campsite.

Campgrounds stay open from April to October. Pitch a tent to feel close to nature and hear the water. Virtually every spot has a view of the water. Go glamping during the winter in the rental cabins. Visitors can cross country ski when there's snow.
