The 40 minute hike to the Deep Creek Hot Springs is well worth the effort, and there's so much more natural beauty to see as you explore miles of hiking and OHV trails nearby and right on the property. Weather can be extreme at times, with Winter temps ranging from 20*F to 40* F, and Summer temps peaking at 112F. The cold creek water in the Deep Creek canyon flows all year around, and the 6 creek-side hot spring pools are always full and consistently hot all year around, ranging in temperatures between 90F-108F. The hike to the Deep Creek Hot Springs is fairly steep and can be difficult for some people, especially in warm weather. In order to be prepared with the correct gear to make this hike and know the USFS rules that apply to the area, please educate yourself before coming by visiting the USFS website page for the Deep Creek area and our webpage for the Deep Creek Hot Springs Campground for detailed driving directions to the official trailhead located right on our property. You won't get lost if you park on our property and hike from the trailhead, so make sure you go to the right address. Know before you go! Generally, reservations are not necessary to set up a tent site, but we have a more private area set aside for hipcamp reservations that has separate facilities from the general camping area. Holcomb Valley Ranch invites you to kick back and relax on our private, 400+ acre ranch in the San Bernardino Mountains. Centered around a 100+ acre meadow, filled with horses in summer months and surrounded by thousands of acres of mountainous National Forest. Just 15 minutes from Big Bear Lake - a large recreational, fresh-water lake for summer swimming, boating, skiing, fishing and other super fun water activities. The Ranch feels remote and private. Yet is only four miles to the town of Big Bear with shopping and restaurants. Also in close proximity to incredible rock climbing at the Pinnacles, seemingly endless hiking and biking and some pretty epic off-roading 4x4 trails. Each campsite is approximately one acre, and generously-distanced from neighboring campers. Amenities include its own fire ring with grilling grate and picnic table(s). The campsites are both cozy enough for 2 or spacious enough for large groups and can easily accommodate a mix of RVs, camper vans and tents. From June to October the 100+ area open meadow is filled with horses grazing and galloping about (please don't pet or feed!) A four-seasons destination, the Ranch has year-round experiences with warm summers and snowy winters. An excellent basecamp, within close proximity to the lake, ski slopes, Pinnacles, hiking/biking and off-roading trails. After a day filled with adventure or ultimate relaxation, be sure to enjoy the breath-taking sunsets over the meadow. The evenings blanket guests with a sea of stars. Toast up some s’mores and warm up some hot-coco over a beautiful, crackling campfire. Remember the s’mores and always follow the “Leave No Trace” principles. There are large trash bins by the entrance. We look forward to hosting you at the Ranch! Please note: OHV’s are allowed. They count as one of the allowed vehicles per campsite and must adhere to the speed limit (10mph) and remain on established camp roads while on the property. They may not be driven from 8pm to 8am. It is strictly forbidden to ride your vehicles through the forest, meadow or off any established roads on or off property. Please research which of the surrounding forestry roads allow for your vehicle type to be driven on. Campsites on the west side of the meadow (F, G & H sites) are partially accessed by a forestry road that does not allow dirt bikes. Horses: The horses which may be roaming the meadow during your stay are not property of Holcomb Valley Ranch. When horses are present, guests and their pets are prohibited from entering the meadow. Please do not approach, interact, feed or touch the horses. This is for your safety and the safety of the horses. Do, however, take lots of photos! They make a perfect backdrop:)

High Desert Hot Spring Hideout

This property is the perfect place to escape the city and immerse yourself in nature. Nestled in the mountains of the high desert, we invite you to come stay in a peaceful serene setting, where beautiful natural desert scenery and mountain views surround you. The 40 minute hike to the Deep Creek Hot Springs is well worth the effort, and there's so much more natural beauty to see as you explore miles of hiking and OHV trails nearby and right on the property. Weather can be extreme at times, with Winter temps ranging from 20*F to 40* F, and Summer temps peaking at 112F. The cold creek water in the Deep Creek canyon flows all year around, and the 6 creek-side hot spring pools are always full and consistently hot all year around, ranging in temperatures between 90F-108F. The hike to the Deep Creek Hot Springs is fairly steep and can be difficult for some people, especially in warm weather. In order to be prepared with the correct gear to make this hike and know the USFS rules that apply to the area, please educate yourself before coming by visiting the USFS website page for the Deep Creek area and our webpage for the Deep Creek Hot Springs Campground for detailed driving directions to the official trailhead located right on our property. You won't get lost if you park on our property and hike from the trailhead, so make sure you go to the right address. Know before you go! Generally, reservations are not necessary to set up a tent site, but we have a more private area set aside for hipcamp reservations that has separate facilities from the general camping area. We do not recommend bringing children due to occasional nudity that may be seen in the area and the degree of difficulty for the hike. The hike to the hot springs is fairly difficult and everyone’s physical fitness needs to be considered when deciding to take pets, or have children, elderly people, or out-of-shape/over-weight people in your group.

This Property once owned by 1 family was divided and sold , so there is some neighbor shared utilities so we try and be very respectful to those utilities which includes shared roadway , garbage , and water usage , I currently live on the upper section of the property ,and enjoy regular use of the park via hiking , mountain biking , etc the camping spots are separated but campsite 2 would need to walk to the side of campsite 1 to have access to the mountain biking , hiking park / preserve . The preserve offers several different terrains from Rocky areas to rolling hills to straight down vertical cliffs , some times of year the rain was so heavy the grass and weeds have grown 4 ft tall and other times there is barely a plant insight . The hiking trails are generally wide with some of the mountain biking paths becoming a foot or 2 wide . The wildlife generally stays at our end of the preserve which includes occasionally deer have been seen , but on a regular basis you will encounter Donkeys , Coyotes , Bobcats , Fox , Rabbits , Squirrels , Hawk's , Eagles , Crow , Owl's , and not very often a mountain lion has been either seen in person , tracks spotted or a local resident has caught them on there security cameras . If your up for the day long hike you can make it all the way to the top of Blue Mountain near Grand Terrace another great spot for overlooking the nearby cities especially as it gets closer to sunset

Camping near Lake Arrowhead guide

Overview

The eastern spur of the San Bernardino National Forest is well-known for outdoor activities, and Lake Arrowhead is no exception. Although swimming and kayaking on Lake Arrowhead is typically reserved only for residents and beach club members, campers can find plenty of equally stunning lakes nearby. Lake Arrowhead’s own deep blue waters are visible from many trails surrounding it, plus numerous smaller lakes and streams nearby are popular for kayaking, swimming, picnicking, and more. In the northeast corner of the national forest, Big Bear Lake beckons summer swimmers and fishers with high mountains and shaded valleys that serve as welcome respites from the desert heat for mountain bikers and hikers.

Where to go

Lake Gregory Regional Park

Just to the west of Lake Arrowhead, the day-use Lake Gregory Regional Park is a hidden swath of blue surrounded by towering redwoods and rocky bluffs. There is a sandy beach, boat rentals, a nature trail loop, fishing opportunities, and water slides for summer fun. Tent and RV camping can be found in the surrounding area.

Big Bear Lake

Fed only by snow melt, Big Bear Lake is an all-season destination—incredible for winter sports and summer swims. A small beach sits on the north shore, and Garstin Island is another popular swimming area. The area’s large granite boulders are distinct and often used for short jumps into the cool water below.

Snow Valley

Southwest of Lake Arrowhead in Running Springs, Snow Valley is a small but popular winter resort for skiing and snowboarding. Recognized as having ample beginner terrain, Snow Valley attracts sledders who seek big hill thrills from the only Southern Californian chair lift for sledding. In summer, mountain bikers access the Scenic View Chair Lift to access countless trails for downhill rides. Look out for cabin camping spots nearby.

San Gorgonio Wilderness

Within the Sand to Snow National Monument lies the San Gorgonio Wilderness, an alpine landscape home to bears, mountain lions, and bighorn sheep. A small section of the Pacific Coast Trail runs through the wilderness area, and numerous hikes, many accessible via Highway 38, pass through groves of aspen and oak. The wilderness is home to 24 backcountry campsites accessible with a free permit.
