Hike and camp on the windswept shores of Lake Alexandrina.
Jutting out from the southwest shore of Lake Alexandrina, the remote and largely uninhabited Point Sturt is one of the lake’s wildest corners. Hike along the grassy peninsula, enjoy magnificent lake views, or take to the windswept waters to boat, kayak, or windsurf. If you’re into secluded lakeside camping with nothing but views, then Point Sturt’s waterfront campground might be exactly what you’re looking for—but come prepared, as there are zero facilities and strong winds! Alternatively, you’ll find options further up the Sturt Peninsula, including a riverside holiday park with powered sites and cabin rentals at Clayton Bay. West of Point Sturt, the coastal towns of Goolwa and Victor Harbor are two of the most visited along the Fleurieu Peninsula. From there, you can explore Hindmarsh Island, ride the historic Cockle Train, go canoeing and bird-watching in Coorong National Park, or spot whales during their winter migration.
