Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Greenbrier adventure.
Forest hikes, lake cruises, and beachside fun await at this Appalachian Mountain retreat.
The rugged hills and sweeping forests of the Appalachian Mountains provide a scenic backdrop for outdoor activities at Greenbrier State Park. A short stretch of the Appalachian Trail runs through the eastern border of the park, but there’s a further 11 miles of wooded trails to tempt hikers and mountain bikers. All roads lead to the central lake, where you can cool off with a swim and lounge on the sandy beach in summer. Take to the water to boat, canoe, or fish for bass and trout, then check in to the Greenbrier Campground, where sites come with forest views.
Summer brings the crowds to Greenbrier, which regularly reaches capacity on summer weekends and holidays. Arrive early to avoid disappointment, and expect lines to enter the park. To avoid the crowds, opt for a weekday visit outside of the summer months—perhaps, to admire the spring wildflowers or fall foliage. The beach is open from May through September, while camping season runs from early April through October.
Nestled amid the lush forest, Rocky Gap State Park is a camper's paradise, with serene lakeside pitches and exhilarating hiking trails, offering an invigorating escape from the mundane.
