Camp Rio, formerly named Camp @ Cloudcroft is located in beautiful SE New Mexico! The park is surrounded by thousands of acres of the Lincoln National Forest. The forest is laced with small villages, picturesque roads, riding, hiking, golf, and walking trails. Small valleys, surrounding mountains, racing streams, wildlife, birds, mountain glens and outdoor activities are available to Camp Rio guests. The small towns around us are Mayhill, Cloudcroft, Weed, and Pinion. These towns have scheduled activities such as arts and craft fairs, car shows, bluegrass festivals, dog shows, and Lumberjack days. Additional day trips to Alamogordo, Capitan (Smokey the Bear), Carlsbad, Las Cruces, Lincoln (Billy the Kid), Ruidoso (skiing), Sunspot (National Solar Observatory, Truth or Consequences (Hot Springs) and White Sands National Monument! Camping with wonderful amenities!
Camp Rio was so much more lovely than I anticipated. The staff was so friendly and cordial. The showers always had hot water with plenty of pressure, and there are laundry facilities and a little camp store too! The Pavilion had a nice couch to lounge on which was so nice before going to sleep in a tent. Though I went out for hiking in cloudcroft, it was well worth the 20 minute drive back to camp. I will for sure be going back often to Camp Rio!

Good for car-campers
Camp Rio is a good place for car-campers to set up a base camp while exploring the Cloudcroft, White Sands, and Alamogordo areas. It is popular for RVs as well. We appreciated the hot showers, helpful hosts, and quiet evenings. Nights are chilly in April, so plan your stay accordingly. The cafe in nearby Mayhill serves a fine breakfast.

The place is beautiful with loads of wildlife. The tent spots are done well and the restrooms were very clean. We will recommend this place to all of our friends.

Good stuff
Nice site in a beautiful area. Note that these are walk in sites. Roof top tent vehicles cannot camp at a site.

Camp Rio Tent Sites
Camp Rio was amazing! We made it our home base when visiting White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns. Everyone was nice and welcoming. We ended up with really high winds one day and they offered to let us move. We stayed in a tent on the riverside. Nice sky view, quiet camp site, and we saw the local ducks and deer. Restrooms and shower were clean and we had hot water. Will definitely visit again!

RV and Tent Camp
Rio Camp is an RV and tent camp. The best part was the heated bathrooms with hot showers! Staff was very nice and helpful. They were doing some construction and they made sure to tell everyone, way ahead of time, when the water had to be turned off. There is also a community building with a kitchen and table for guests’ use, which we were thankful for as it was quite cold outside.
