Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do.

Site 3 (aka Bunny 5)
5 stars
Great spot with a creek just a short walk behind the site and another short walk to the bath house. Good size camp site. It was just my husband and I, but could easily accommodate a small group. There is some occasional street noise which is kind of funny because it’s easy to forget how close you are to civilization. There are two grills and a fire pit. Adam sells a decent bundle of wood. We were out fishing and hiking all day and only needed a small fire in the morning and again for dinner, which his bundle carried us through our three night stay.

Thunder Bridge Cabin 2 (Parcell)
Rustic Log Cabin and babbling brook
TLDR - we loved it and you will too. My wife graduated from Liberty University and every Air B&B in Lynchburg was taken. We expanded our search and looked into the mountains. Thunder Bridge was exactly what we needed. My family of 5 plus 3 dogs were SUPER COMFORTABLE. No electricity, no cell coverage, no plumbing..... NO PROBLEM! That's why we chose it. We absolutely loved exploring the camp grounds and surrounding trails. The bath house has hot showers, trash bins, Wi-Fi, and a screened in recreation room. Our site had a fireplace indoors, stone campfire ring, and charcoal grill outdoors so bring a splitting axe (we only had a camp hatchet). Sleeping arrangements were easy because there were 11 cots. The sound of the creek was soothing because it was right next to our cabin. The outhouse/privy was an easy walk, even in the dark. Cave Mountain Lake is only 2 minutes away, the Natural Bridge is 10 minutes away, and Lynchburg was under an hour. Excellent service! We'll be back

Site 3 (aka Butterfly 1)
Adam's property is lovely with a unique history! Our site was exactly as pictured. The small walk to the creek was perfect for our pups on our hot arrival day. The pavilion had excellent wifi for catching up on the world and the bathhouse was better than some big name campgrounds I've stayed at. Natural Bridge State Park and wineries/breweries nearby.

Thunder Bridge Cabin 2 (Parcell)
We had an enjoyable time. The cabin was nestled among the trees, and we enjoyed the sounds from the nearby creek. Adam was very helpful and friendly.

RV Site 1
Awesome
We had an amazing time. The bathhouse was very clean. Nice large property. We booked RV Site 1 and we had electric and water hookup. Highly recommend taking Petite Gap Road up to Skyline Dr. We would love to come back and bring some friends.
