Stone Lodge Pastures
While it’s definitely not conventional camping, we had a really nice weekend at Sam’s! My son had a blast exploring the disused rodeo arena and it would have been the perfect place to fly his kite if it hadn’t been raining. Sam was super friendly and accommodating. The trip had a “crashing at your buddy’s place on your way through town” feeling to it that made it homey and comfortable and oddly nostalgic. I would definitely recommend this location if you’re passing through Great Falls, just don’t expect a “classic camping” experience….. other than plenty of s’mores that is!

Pass this one by.
We arrived to an empty field that had not been mowed with a closed gate and no signs of anything resembling a camping area. I called the host on arrival but he didn’t answer the phone. Left vm. He called back three hours later and said he wasn’t aware of our reservation. I gave him our confirmation number and he said he would contact Hipcamp to confirm it and work out a refund. (By that time we’d moved on down the road to a KOA). Told me it would take a couple of days to work out. I called again three days later, he didn’t answer. Left another vm. Haven’t heard back. That was two days ago. Will be alerting Hip Camp support.

We spent two nights on Sam’s land and love every second of it! The horses were the sweetest and having access to power was a major plus. Sam responded to any questions we had and provided clear directions, making it easy to find his place. We would definitely stay here again!

Stones Throw Away
Access is easy from I-15. Finding a level spot was a snap. Always quiet even with the expressway near. Gas ia less than a tenth of a mile from the parking area. For us it was the perfect distance from Great Falls. Just 15 minutes to whatever you want to do in town. River access is nearby. If you want to kayak there are several put ins between Ulm and Cascade. First People Buffalo Jump and Interpretive center is 4 miles away. Giant Springs and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive center are 15 minutes away. Sam was a good host.

Perfect landing pad as we traveled from Glacier to Bozeman. Sam was great to work with too!

Staying with horses
Stone Lodge Pastures is right at the interstate off-ramp but still quiet and private. The horses greeted us and then let us be. The grounds are a bit of a challenge to find a level space but we managed after a couple of tries. Although the grounds are not green and verdant like you might expect in a pasture it worked well for us for a place to park, eat and sleep.
