RV camping near Mammoth Lakes guide

Overview

A town in the Sierra Nevada, Mammoth Lakes sits next to Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, a popular alternative to the resorts of Lake Tahoe, which lies about 150 miles north. Geographically, Mammoth also sits near Yosemite National Park, although the most direct route to drive there—Highway 120/Tioga Road—is closed most of the fall, winter, and spring. In the summer, Mammoth fills with hikers and bikers looking to explore the hot springs, alpine lakes, and many trails of Inyo National Forest. Popular areas include June Lake and Lake Mary, which offer fishing, paddling, swimming, and pontoon boat rentals. For a different lake landscape, head to Mono Lake, a salt lake and state natural reserve home to limestone towers and millions of waterbirds. RV parks with amenities can be found along Highway 395. Campgrounds amid the lakes and forest don’t always have hookups. Weather is variable in the mountains with warm summers and snowy Winters
