If you've ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. Completely removed from civilization and surrounded by a barren nature that is alive with the subtle presence of the universe. Seasonally, Spring wildflowers burst across the landscape. Cave paintings of Chumash Indians remind us of those who lived before us. This is where the deer and the antelope play. Our Carrizo Camp is surrounded by the Carrizo Plains National Monument. This is truly a get away from it all camping. That's it. You, the coyotes and your own private moon. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets. Our Ranch House and Glampsites are available on occasion. This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. This land was sparsely populated by the Chumash Indian and is evident by the numerous cave painting that remain here near the Caliente mountain. In the era of the California Missions, this land was a part of the Spanish land grants. Currently the property is privately owned and is adjacent to large sections of publicly held lands.

Vintage Glamp Trailer
We had the most amazing time on a camping trip for my partner’s 30th birthday- it was so special. A large group of us rented multiple glamping sites and the views and experience were beyond amazing- each site was so unique and special. We cannot wait to come back!! (And many thanks to our hostess who navigated us to our sites when we arrived in the pitch black middle of the night!! We wouldn’t have made it without you!!)

We love Songdog’s laid back vibe. Their self serve wood station and store are a great touch. Make sure to bring cash.

Site 3 - Songdog East Campsites.
Highly Rated for a Reason!
I camped at site 3 east with my two sons and we had a great time. We paid the extra for the soaking tub and my kids loved it. We also brought our mountain bikes and the dirt vehicle paths that lead around the property are perfect for mountain biking. We saw deer, a dead rattlesnake, kangaroo mice, and lots of rabbits. Very little light noise so there were lots of stars. Each site is private enough that you can’t hardly see each other. The bathrooms were placed perfectly so that they were close enough to get to, but not so close that if you shared it with another campsite you would be running into each other a lot. I was really happy with the site we chose. It was open and near the top so we had a really pretty view, but still private. The hosts were wonderful - super helpful. They have a little shop that has firewood and other items you might need if you forgot something, and it has the option for paying with cash or a laminated printout of a QR code so you can use Venmo if you need. We have T-Mobile had good service here too. Would definitely visit again!

Site 4 - Songdog West Campsites.
Beautiful mesa views and friendly
We enjoyed the beautiful views from our campsite and seeing all the curious birds and lizards. Some insects and spiders, but you're outside in their home hehe. Jenny is so friendly, helpful, and very responsive to messages! The little storefront has all you need in case you forget anything or want some extras (water, ice, firewood, fuel, smores, salami, sodas, hygiene products, etc). Getting up to the sites on the mesa involves a dirt road drive up an incline, which was fine to do in a regular 2-wheel drive vehicle. Porta potties have a sink station with such great smelling hand soap. Sites are nicely spaced out and the bushes help with privacy. The sound carries a bit, but we lucked out with very quiet neighbors and had no issues.
