My property (Lynx Run) has an amazing geological and historical background. During the last ice age, glacial waters carved out the ravine in which the Betts Creek flows. Sometimes, the creek drops over 60 feet below the surrounding terrain as it meanders back and forth in oxbows as it flows toward the Muskegon River. It was once the hunting, foraging and camping grounds of the Potawatami Indians. In the late 1800's it was at the center of the Michigan Timber Industry. Running along the edge of my property is the old railroad bed where timber was once hauled away. Only two miles from my home, the logs were sent down the side of the hill and into the Muskegon River on log chutes and then floated to where the Muskegon empties into Lake Michigan. Piles of field stones indicate that after the timber industry moved on, farmers moved in and attempted to tame the land. But, fortunately for me, the land was abandoned by the farmers and has returned to a much more natural and pristine state. My land is now a part of the Manistee National Forest and I am surrounded by thousands of acres of beautiful land (both public and private). I am the only person who lives back here in this part of the forest, so seclusion and privacy are wonderful and the wildlife and beauty is abundant.

Courtyard

Misleading

Overall, we had a great time. Unfortunately, I must say it was not what we expected- the listing is quite frankly misleading. We reserved the Courtyard site for 2 nights, expecting all basic accommodations listed. When we got there, it was revealed there was no hot water, hence we couldn't shower. The host did offer us the shower in their home, but we felt uncomfortable with that. The photos listed are real, and those rooms do exist, but here's the catch: the cool things are in the host's home. I guess just don't book here if you want privacy. Area and property are beautiful.

Cabin

Great start to the camping season!

My family loved the Cabin at Lynx Run. From the lodgings to the free range chickens, Monet bridge, and super talented, friendly host, it didn't feel like an average night at a Michigan campsite. It felt more like a trip elsewhere and it made for a great little adventure!

This was an amazing place to stay — very cozy cabin, interesting main house with gorgeous library of curiosities and books, stunning grounds and trails, and beautiful gardens of fall colors.

Secluded Wildlife Paradise

Peaceful sanctuary

This is the second time I've stayed here and it did not disappoint. Robert's assistant Tara was helpful and accommodating and we had a great time chilling by the stream, bird watching, cooking over the fire. It's such a sanctuary and so peaceful. I hope to be back again sometime in the Fall.
