Dark Hollow Park provides beautiful, private, and secure primative campsites. Potable water and a composting privey are available. The camp host is on site if there are any questions. There is a one-mile hiking trail, a small stream and waterfalls located a short hike down into Dark Hollow. The Hollow is rich in history. There is a small Amphitheater in the bottom of the hollow where permanent water remains year round. Dark Hollow has played many rolls from sancuary to battleground over the years. There are numerous activities with in a short distance.Dark Hollow is a beautiful property with plenty of tenting options. Campers often hear lions, tigers, or wolves from the sanctuary located in Sand Valley below. The terrain is rugged with a steep hike down to the creek. There are many hiking trails throughout the 14 acres. Dark Hollow has a rich history of use due to the year around water sources and the terrain providing a defensible position. The Amphitheater located in the bottom of the hollow is unique and gives a glimpse into the past. The camp host is located across the highway if you would like more information.

Dark Hollow
A special place.
This is probably one of the last remaining areas left untouched by colonialization. While the description stated that it was never developed, I was still blown away by the biodiversity. So many natives, and so few invasives to be found. An abundance of wild berries. I've never in my life seen soil so rich and water so clear in Alabama, and I'm from here. If you do decide to visit, please be respectful, watch where you step, and avoid leaving anything behind. I would strongly recommend treating this place with the reverence and respect that you would hold for a place of worship. The land is sacred, and should be respected. The best part of the trip was definitely swimming in the creek (although it was very cold lol). The view was also amazing. I just didn't want to leave. It felt more like home than my actual home.

Beautiful Spot
Firstly, we were met at the gate, asked what kind of spot we would like, then shown a wonderful place to camp. One of the first things I noticed was how well maintained and trash free the camp was. We were shown the facilities and where to get firewood, then when we had no more questions our host departed across the road to his house. Except for some traffic noise now and then, it is a very peaceful place to get away. Plenty of room to explore, and lots of wildlife. The hollow: First I want to point out that I am almost 60 and disabled from a broken back with a lot of hardware holding me together... I made the hike down and up twice. It was difficult but doable, and well worth the effort. I have to recommend this camp to anyone wanting a relaxing weekend, or wanting a rewarding hike in the hills. Kudos to Danny and Richard for making such a great place to get away!

Great hosts!
The setting was beautiful and Zed could not have been a more helpful host. We arrived to our campsite just as the rain was settling in, only to realize we had left one of our tent poles at home. In no time, Zed returned with some supplies and we were able to rig the tent and enjoy a dry night with our kids. The outdoor shower was such a nice luxury too.

Dark Hollow
Danny was a great host! Really enjoyed his company. As an avid hiker, he created a very lovely trail that is well mark and a vigorous hike. The 1.1 mile hike goes down to a very beautiful stream. I sat on a large rock in the stream and enjoyed a zen moment. The shower is well made and roomy. The sites are well put together with stone fire pits and some have nice stone benches. The drive there was enjoyable and access to the entrance was easy and well marked. I highly recommend this if you like a good morning hike. I will definitely be returning for a longer stay!
