Living Large on Chilliwack River

7 sites · Tents2 acres · Chilliwack, BC
Enjoy the beautiful acres right on the Chilliwack River! A wonderful family-friendly (including pets!) getaway with endless activities nearby. Our campsite is available in the spring and summer and is just 20 minutes from the city of Chilliwack, BC. We provide a fire pit and campfires are allowed as long as there is no fire ban. The sites are quite private but there will be other campers nearby. We try to keep a large amount of space between sites and some are separated by trees. We are a walk in tent only site- parking is very close, 30 second walk. We can also provide access to electricity so you can charge your phones or other devices if needed. There is no cell reception, but we do have wifi. Potable water is available. We supply natural spring water but you must bring your own jug. We live in an adventure playground! Activities nearby include hiking, white rapid river rafting, fishing, watching bald eagles, Cultus Lake water slides and adventure park, mountain biking, and more! The stargazing at night is beautiful as there is no light pollution here. We look forward to hosting you!

It's only 20 minutes from town but far enough to enjoy the peaceful and serene offerings of nature. The property has a 20 x 60' covered picnic area, a large beach suitable for swimming in summer and fall, and it is also a world-class fishing spot. It has unlimited mountain trails and logging roads for ATVs, mountain bikers/hikers and with Class I - IV rapids, is also a fantastic area for whitewater kayaking and rafting. The national kayaking team trains just up from us and Chilliwack River Rafting is very close by. We occasionally host weddings in the meadow and covered picnic area as well. Your QUIET, well-mannered, leashed (at all times) pet is welcome as long as you pick up after them. There is a minimum of 3 nights on long weekends. Children MUST be accompanied by a parent at all times! We are in a very sensitive, natural environment & want it left exactly as you found it so it can be enjoyed by others. We've unfortunately had children cutting down small trees, ripping moss & bark off of trees & damaging playground equipment. For some reason Hipcamp doesn't show my individual sites, so I will list them here. Some say Adults only (a minimum of 19 yrs)due to sharp drop offs to the river and undercut banks that would be unsafe for children. SITES: Site 21. Adult only site (19+) 17'W x 63'L with a wider portion at the end and some to one side. (measurements of that to follow) Private, with gorgeous wide open view of the river, Pairs well with site 45 and 21. Site L2. Adults only (19+) Beautiful river view! Connects with L1 on the right. 39'D x 20'W. Site L4. Adults only (19+) Private site with full river view. 30’L x 35’W Best for under 25' due to a narrow entrance. Site L6. Some river view through the trees. Semi-circle, 28’D x 42’W Fairly private, but visible to L6. This site is suitable for smaller units (under 20'). Site C2. Only 2 campsites on this road, so it's very quiet and private but it adjoins Site C1. 33’ D x 30’W plus 9’ x 21’. Riverside Tiny A-frame

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Slesse Park, BC
Enjoy the sound of the rushing river when you stay in our Tiny riverside A-frame cabin. Located in the Chilliwack River Valley, you are surrounded by the soaring mountains, beautiful rushing river and enchantment of the lush rainforest. Spend some time fishing, hiking, mountain biking, rafting and so much more all just minutes from the cabin.Learn more about this land:Our Tiny A-frame is located on our property where we live full-time. You will have to pass through our back yard to get to the cabin however, we are located on a hill/mountain side so the cabin is quite a bit lower, thus you have your own separate area to retreat to.Please note that, at this time the cabin only offers a urine diverting composting style toilet and no shower. There is a sink inside the cabin with a cold running tap using RV style plumbing. You may use the kettle provided to fill the sink for doing dishes or freshening up. This is very much a glamping style accommodation. There is a space heater and heated blankets stocked in the cabin however, it is still recommended to bring warm clothes to keep you extra cozy during the colder months. Being in the Valley most people do lose their cell service heading our way, so keep that in mind when booking. However, we do offer WiFi to all of our guest.

Forager Hill Farm on Hayward Lake

3 sites · Lodging5 acres · Mission, BC
Our 5 acre forested farm backs onto Hayward Lake and has the Stave River at the front of the property. Our farm has ducks, chickens, rabbits, and a collection of cats. There are wild berry bushes throughout the property and the surrounding forest. Lake access is private (people could hike in or canoe up, but normally we have it to ourselves) and the lake itself is a great spot for wildlife watching (beavers, deer, bats, fish, bears, owls, eagles, osprey etc.). The Stave River in the front of the property offers a more sunny spot for swimming and fishing. The Hayward Reservoir Trail circumnavigates the whole lake and the trail entrance is a 5 minute walk from the cabin. The cabin site includes a picnic table and outhouse. We provide fresh spring water and campfire wood can be supplied ($10 a bundle). The cabin is insulated and can be heated with the wood stove so it is suitable for use all year.

Camping near Chilliwack guide

Overview

One-hundred kilometres east of Vancouver along the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), Chilliwack feels suburban, with a population approaching 100,000. Yet it’s a base for outdoor adventures in several provincial and regional parks. Trek the hiking trails in Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park or climb Mount Cheam for views across the Fraser Valley. Go kayaking, canoeing, or boating on Cultus Lake, rafting along the Chilliwack River, or biking from farm to farm. Campers can find sites at Cultus Lake or Chilliwack Lake provincial parks, along the Chilliwack River in campgrounds like Vedder River, and in RV parks around the area.

When to go

Located near BC’s west coast, Chilliwack has warm dry summers and cool wet winters, with temperate spring and fall weather in between. Campers should come mid-week in summer, if possible, since weekends are usually quite busy. You might find campsites more easily in the spring or fall. Although winters can be rainy with temperatures above freezing, be prepared for snow at higher elevations.

Know before you go

  • As British Columbia’s seventh-largest city, Chilliwack has plenty of stores where you can buy food and drink, camping supplies, and other outdoor gear.
  • British Columbia’s Fraser Valley is an agricultural region, so stock up on fresh produce at local farm stands. Blueberries are a highlight during the summer, as is fresh corn in the late summer or early fall.
  • Planning to camp in one of the provincial parks? Both Cultus Lake and Chilliwack Lake get very busy in summer, so reserve your campsite in advance.
